Right. She should've been fired.

It really makes no sense either. They have nothing in common.

Her job duties should have changed though.

Janitor? She was hired to do a job. If she can't go her job then she needs to be let go.

she can do her job (serve customer most of what they want, flight instructions, CPR, etc). Just because her religion prevents her from doing spect of her job, that doesn't mean she can be fired (without a lawsuit). Sure she can be fired, but she will have a case against the employer. I don't make the rules/laws, but they are what they are.

Its wrong that the employer cant fire a person they hired to do a specific job...if I was the airline I would look for reason to terminate her...she would be on thin ice.

They both want to force their way of thinking on you. So, there's that.

what if a muslim waiter refused to serve pork or bacon in a restaurant? should they be allowed to work there if they refuse to actually serve the food on the menu?

I see your point, and my admittedly not strong rebuttal would be to say that serving alcohol on flights is not a flight attendants core job. They are there to ensure safety of passengers. And people don't get on a plane to be served alcohol. It wouldn't work if she wanted to work at Harold's House of Hog but not serve pork, but I get the logical flow.

Just to clarify, I think the suit is mot likely bogus. I think employers are way too handcuffed in situations like this. But I also know that it is very possible to not have it come to this in many cases, unless one of the parties just really wants to make a point.

I would say it is the part of their job that takes up the most time...serving food & drinks

also said something about her wearing a headdress...is that part of the uniform I wonder?

Why do liberals defend Muslim and radical Islam but bash Christians and Jews every chance they get??

I dont think they bash Jews and Christians every chance they get, but our nation is very biased towards Judaism and Christianity, and most everyone understands the gist of those religions while Islam in the stats is widely unknown. Im not defending anyone, its just a simple fact.

What irks me about islam is the literal sense with which some groups go about living out their religious texts, despite the fact that the religious texts were formulated centuries ago. Its almost as if Islam is taking the same course Christianity did (i.e. Crusades, Inquisition etc. ) , and hopefully they'll simply start to interpret it differently in the way that doesn't cause so much civil unrest and violence.

What if a Police Officer change religions and he said it was against his religion to take arrest felons. Should he keep his job?

Serving alcohol is part of her job. She knew that when she took the job, she knew that when she changed religions. Why should this airline and her fellow employees be punished because she made a choice in her life?

So let me get this straight, she converts after she's already served alcohol, and now can no longer do it based on religious beliefs...?

Good thing she didn't work at hooters.

The fact that the employee converted is a legal red herring. It makes no difference. The only real question is whether it's an undue burden to provide the requested accommodation.

This situation parallels one of the examples of a religious accommodation provided by the EEOC:

a Christian pharmacy employee needs to be excused from filling birth control prescriptions

Don't worry about him, he'll burn in hell while we laugh down at him from the clouds. As long as we don't sell alcohol.
