To those of you who are doctors, of any field, do you "correct" people if they call you "Mr" or "Mrs" instead of saying "Doctor" before your name?
Only assholes/newly graduated folks do this.

What I don't understand is when the media puts Dr in front of someone's name when it has no bearing on the situation, and they would not use Mr or Ms for someone in that exact instance.
For example, "Dr Jerry Punch" working as a sideline reporter. You never see ESPN list off "Mrs Samantha Ponder."
Is it kind of like a military title that gets forever attached to your name?

A slightly different question...are teachers the only profession that will introduce themselves to fricking other adults as Mrs. Smith rather than Susan Smith? It's one thing to call another person Mr./Ms. when you meet them as a show of respect...but to introduce ones self as that drives me batty.
I'd never dream of introducing myself to anyone but a child as Mr. Tiger. In almost all cases thereafter I'll make a point of telling people to please just call me by my first name.

Only douches do that.

Jerry Punch did earn an MD, but at some point enough is enough

You work hard for that title. My wife (No pics) will have her Ph.D soon and you had better believe she's going to make everyone call her doctor in the beginning. I might just shoot myself now.

Hell no, if people call me Mr. instead of Dr. they are still trying to give me respect. Specifically, I ask people not to call me Dr. and just by my first name. I even have people just call me by my first name at work. The PhD was more of a personal accomplishment for myself than I ever worried about people calling me Dr.
If I introduce myself to kids and officials, I do introduce myself as Dr. so and so. The real funny thing is that if I go into an MD's office, they will not call me Dr. even though they know I am a Dr. The MD's think they are the only doctors, the academics think the MDs are just trained monkeys and the Vets think they are more Dr. than everyone else. Then there are the Dr. Drs. You know the people that do this, Dr. John Doe, PhD. Those are the really jackholes! :-)

Whenever a d-bag corrects me on this, I make a point of continuing to call him "Mr."

I'm not a doctor but I do this all the time

My wife is a doctor. She couldn't care less what you called her.

I worked at a bank and the sheet you sign up for to see a loan officer had "Mr/Mrs _____________" so you circle which one you were then write your name. It never failed that Dr's would scratch through "Mr/Mrs" and write Dr so and so. killed me every time.

If you're a PHD or chiropractor then yes. I prefer not for people to know unless I'm going get special treatment

Reminds me of the old Seinfeld episode where George wondered aloud in the waiting room why people call chiropractors "Doctor."
When he gets called back and says "oh hello...DOCTOR" and looks back subtly at Jerry, I still laugh out loud to this day.
