If you're young and interested in the night scene and like an urban big city vibe, downtown around Five Points is where you want to go.

If you're looking for somewhere more conducive to family life with good schools for the kids, I'd reccomend Mountain Brook or Vestavia Hills.

Right now Trussville is "nice" and it's even growing. It has a good school and everything you need if living the burb lifestyle is your thing. But it's also super crowded and it's less then a five minute drive straight up Hwy 11 from one of the worst crime riddled ghettos in the southeast. In fact, crime from there is starting to spill over from there into Trussville.

I'd like to add that if you like to bass fish, there is no greater place in the world to live. There is so much water and different kinds of lakes within a 2 hour radius of Bham that it's ridiculous.

Stand by. Have a buddy sending me a link to a condo he has for rent now.

Depending on your work schedules I would avoid anything that put me on I65 N/S or 20/50 E during peak hours for about the next 3 years.

I would do downtown or like others have said Crestview/Homewood.

It's nowhere near as crowded as 280

It's not that close. Certainly not as close as Homewood is to West End

I wouldn't go that far. LOL I'll agree that the areas outside of the city are nicer than those outside of Baton Rouge, but Birmingham itself isn't what I'd call a "beautiful" city. It's a matter of preference. Personally, I'd never live in the state of Alabama, period.

Watts Tower Downtown

As much as I'd love for $1,600 for that condo to be reasonable. PLEASE do yourself a favor and do not rent that condo at that price. This is where I live and market rent is more like $1,200. If you want to rent my unit for $1,600, i'll move out today. Let me know.

I do love living here though (and suggested it on the last page). You can live in Watts for less than most other places on the north side.
