Start in Homewood.

Medical field? Lots of residents live in homewood. That's where we would have looked if we ended up there.

Yeah, don't live near UAB. Traffic is a bit of a pain but take the Hoover or Mountain Brook areas.

You'll be glad in the end.

I was there a couple of weeks ago for a buddy's wedding. The city reminded me a lot of Baton Rouge. Some beautiful neighborhoods and a downtown on the rise, but also lots of blight and run down areas. Where are you moving from?

*Has either never been to Birmingham, has only passed through it via interstate without stopping, or hasn't been in 15-20 years.

Does Birmingham have its share of bad areas? Yep, it does. Does it have nice areas that are really starting to blossom? Very much so. People continuing to hold a view like you have, without acknowledging the progress that has been made in the city, are just helping to hold it back.

You can live within walking distance of UAB and be in some very nice upscale apartment living around 2nd, 3rd, 4th Ave South. If you want house living, Homewood would be your best bet to be close to UAB.

Check out Crestwood. You could get to UAB in 10-12 minutes. You would be minutes from the restaurants, bars, breweries in Avondale, Lake View, and downtown

Edit: Crestwood is house living. If you want apartment living check out the "Liv On" condos. Also, check out the condos that overlook Regions Field. Sitting on your balcony watching the Barrons play would be
