I went to an Alamo Drafthouse a while back.
It's not that distracting with the waiters passing by. There are a lot fewer seats in the theater and the space between one row of seats and another is a little wider than normal. Plus, the waiters were very good at being unobtrusive.
I want to say it was about as bright as the average theater. I'm trying to remember if we got to the theater a little earlier than normal and managed to order our food and have it delivered before the movie started. Or maybe it was a 7:30 showtime and they started the movie 10-15 minutes later, so everyone could order and get their meals.

If you can order during the movie, how distracting is it to have a waiter pass food down an aisle? Seems like there could be tons of distraction from people walking up and down stairs handing out food.

There isn't really. There is a ton of room between the rows and the seats are large leather recliners with a tray that swings out.

Basically, when you walk into the theater you are given a menu and greeted by your server. They can take your order then or come back. if you need them at any time you hit a little button (like the flag at Ponchos) and they will come over when they get a chance.

With about 30 minutes left in the movie, they will bring you the check or you can give them your CC ahead of time and they'll just bring you the bill at the end.

Also, how much light is provided for diners to see during the movie? Some of the dishes served are knife and fork meals, so I assume there is enough light to be able to see. So how does that affect the movie watching experience?

I've found some entrees are better suited to eat during the movie than others. The one in Covington has a bar, so we usually go there first, have a beer and order our food to be delivered in the movie and it usually comes during the previews before it gets too dark. But, we've made the mistake of ordering things like fish tacos and it does make it hard to see what you are eating.

$10 for a ticket (if the price is the same as the Covington location) and $10 for a burger isn't going to draw the VP crowd for very long

Thats about what it is at Applebees and every other theater right now. The cost really isn't any more and might actually be less in some cases. But, the perception at the moment is that it is more expensive.

The tickets to Movie Tavern in Covington were cheaper than the other movie theater in Covington last time we went.

So what is to stop some one from buying a ticket to the movie and then not ordering any food or drinks?

That's fine with me. Whatever it takes to keep the loud-talkers and phone-checkers out.

I saw Straight Outta Compton at the Movie Tavern in Covington on Friday without issue. Started with a Lganfrugels Shandy, then I ordered my hummus plate and edamame and had two glasses of Merlot cause I was keepin it real.
