In our case it wasn't the place so much as the timing. One Mardi Gras maybe 20 years ago, there was an aircraft carrier docked in New Orleans and they were allowing civilians to come on board and tour. My husband, son, and I walked down to the dock from the French Quarter to see the ship, along with a hundred or so other people. As we were traveling between decks on the huge aircraft elevator, we looked behind us and there were my MIL and her cousin.

As my husband said, if we had tried to plan to meet her on the ship, between the crowds in the Quarter, the number of people on the ship, and lack of cell phones with which to co-ordinate on site, it never would have worked.

A friend of mine signed up with the Navy and a few months later I was on the North line to Waukegan from Chicago and ran into to her there. Where she had boot, it was a total surprise.

Either you would have had it made for life, or you would have been canned within a few days.

Too bad you were not employed there to find out.

Saw a friend from youth sports at DEN airport. First time I'd seen him since HS, but obviously kept in touch via FB.

Thanks, Houston--looking forward to the review.

Was there over Christmas but missed Aji. Fun little island, though. Will be back.

I don't know if it's unexpected...but I go to the UGA bar in NYC pretty much every football game and more often than not I see a friend from home or college visiting the city. It's pretty cool.

I guess seeing a college friend at the DC airport is the most random.
