they used to put out some incredible basketball teams. Class B squads that could compete with 5A schools
Yea. They could ball. Michael Cutright (sp) who played for McNeese was a baller.

I attended college in the mid '90s with a guy who played basketball there. Guy could play some ball.
guys would grow up playing ball and have the same team that they had in grade school. got to the point where they could almost read each others minds bc they had played together for so long. Them and Rapides were almost identical in this regard. Had to play Zwolle in quarterfinals my senior and they wrecked us. We shut down their 6'10 stud but their guards were just too much to handle. we went in there with a motion offense designed to hold the ball unless easy layups presented themselves. we held the ball almost the entire 1st quarter and the score was like 10-8 Alas, they figured it out and we got wrecked

Another small town up that way that would destroy bigger schools was Florine. Tiny class B school but always had a couple guys 6'6" or bigger. Anacoco was no slouch either.

Literal headline from a Louisiana small town newspaper: "Waterproof man drowns." Town is named waterproof.

That map looks like our towns are spaced apart rather nicely

Lawd we ran into Flouren, Zwolle, and Anacoco while I played ball. We tok down Flouren one yr by getting their 6'6" mountain of a power forward in foul trouble. The others just destroyed our asses. I'd bet that yr in and out there's a C or B school that can compete for 5A state titles. With no football team it's all basketball all of the time.
