Post across multiple boards and rarely start topics, but really curious of what the OT has for words of encouragement. I am always talking with friends and family about things they are going through and considered a confidant by them all. I don’t usually use a “canned” statement or something, but try to rationalize the situation and provide guidance and positive words of encouragement based on the situation. Including giving the “Words of Wisdom” eulogies at both my grandparents funerals.

What are some of the most inspirational things or stories that have been given to you?

What are the best statements of encouragement you have heard that are used for general situations?

What Are things you have, ready to talk with somebody when the time is right?

Looking for something more then:
“It’ll be okay”
“There’s a reason that happened”
Etc

When I was 8 years old, my football team was playing in the semi-final game. The game was tied 6-6 with about 2 minutes left in the game. At that age, the coach still stood in the huddle with the players. The coach stepped into the huddle, said something, and 2 plays later we score to with the game.

Afterwards, my mom asked me what coach Morrow said to inspire us so much. I told her he said, "Listen you little sons of bitches...if you don't score a GD touchdown right now, I'm going to kick every one of your asses at practice on Monday." I am still inspired by his motivational speech.

I would ditch this one. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together knows that either a lot of random shite is going on in the world for no discernible reason, or some entity is deliberately causing a lot of suffering.

Ok...seriously, now. These are inspirational statements, rather than "encouraging" ones that I always loved from Steve Prefontaine....

"To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift" ~ Steve Prefontaine

"Somebody may beat me, but their going to have to bleed to do it" ~ Steve Prefontaine
