It looks like there is a leash law in Ville Platte.

Still trying to find more info.

Unless your fender was made of weapons grade uranium it is not worth paying for an attorney.

Depending on your deductible, it may cost you more to file a lawsuit than to simply make a claim on your insurance.

THIS IS WHY YOU INSURANCE.

P is actually a cock sucking a-hole. Hope his transmission goes out next time he's driving.
It's more dangerous to slam on the brakes is this situation as there was a truck behind him...
When traveling at higher speeds, you are never supposed to slam on the brakes for anything smaller than a deer or something that will seriously funk up the front end of your car.
The dog owner shouldn't have let his dog roam free next to a highway. The dog owner is at "fault", and I'll go as far to say the op is better than most considering that he didn't just continue on and actually stopped to check on the dog.

I have thought of that. Deductible is $500 I think.
I will probably check with my insurance tomorrow and home it works out like this:

Similar thing happened to me. I reported it to my insurance, my insurance went after their homeowners, I paid nothing and car was fixed.
The dog is their responsibility.

I'm sure you can get some mental anguish out of this too

Haha.
I'm just hoping to get the damage to my vehicle covered. I'd even change the bumper myself if the dog owner was willing to pay for the part.

What the hell do you drive? If I clipped, hit, thumped, or otherwise made contact with a dog to the point of damaging my vehicle, the dog would be dead as a hammer and probably unrecognizable.

This thread is full of pussies. Make them pay for your bumper brah.

Dude, You just report it to your insurance. Why would you hire a lawyer? Your insurance will determine liability.

Once the dog started to run across the road in front of me I really got on the brakes. It caught just the corner but it did crack the bumper in a few places. There is a bit of fiberglass exposed.

Wow, I really hope pet cemetery is real so this dog can come back to life and maul your jugular.
How do you accidentally hit an animal anyways? It's near the road, you realize it's a dipshit no nothing animal so you slow down enough that if it does run out you can stop

I just assume they are ok with breaking leash laws and being irresponsible pet owners. Obviously those type of people are out there.

Hitting a dog can damage your car that much? What the heck do you drive?
If you want to get some major karma points threaten legal action for the car if he doesn't bring the dog to the vet. Wins all around AND you get to go to heaven. (where all dogs go)
