Honestly, it should all be completely destroyed and erased from history. What a horrible history behind these disgusting "monuments".

Please tell me what was disgusting about Lee and Beauregard.

Didn't some one say that the Mayor was going to let a buddy keep them on some land he owned?

Did he? Show me some proof

ETA: and if owning slaves is enough to have monuments of yours destroyed, we've got a lot of work to do.

Guys Guys,

This thread isn't about politics or beliefs...it's about thinking outside the box on different uses for the monuments. I honestly love the idea of seeing Robert E Lee in a Brees jersey.

Yes, he did. It is well known he and his wife inherited some slaves and he petitioned to keep them for business reasons. Look it up between gymnastic meets you lazy weirdo.

what kind of museums are going to showcase these types of monuments?

There's a Civil War museum in downtown NO. Beauvoir (Jefferson Davis' home) in Biloxi has been mentioned as a possible landing spot for the Jeff Davis statue.

But hopefully the next mayor takes office and puts the monuments back up.

So he inherited slaves, kept them there, then freed them.

What you guys miss was that this was in a completely different era. Lee also said that the slavery was good for blacks as a race because it brought them to the USA but also condemned it for being evil. If Lee is disgusting and evil for inheriting those slaves and then later freeing them, you'll need to condemn every president that owned slaves which includes Lee's nemesis, Grant.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be advocating getting rid of racist statues if I was a racist

I really liked the idea of a park for the monuments. Just have a shrine of monuments, civil war artifacts, maybe even plant some cotton seed. People would flock from all over the south and generate some more income for our city.

I truly don't understnad why they had to move them. I always thought they were cool. I highly doubt a black man walks by that statue and thinks "If only that statue were gone, I could finally make something of myself!" This is just another ploy by the Damnecratic Party asking for the poor, disadvantaged minorities to vote for them! We will keep taking down statues and promoting SJW propaganda. As far as helping them goes, they can only do that when they have enough money in their pockets! The thing is according to them, they never have enough!
