What specific breed are they calling a "pit bull"? Are they talking about American Pit Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, an American Bully, or Staffordshire Bull Terriers? Also, does the American Bulldog count?

To which you replied, "that's factually incorrect."

She said that all the children she's treated for dog attacks have been the result of pitbulls.

"Factually incorrect." ETA: Like you would have any way of knowing.

Wrong. My reply:

Yep, and I called bullshite. I stand by that.

Ok, here we go.

nurse (in pertinent part): All of the kids I see with dog bites needing to be in the hospital for surgery because their faces are so horribly mutilated....guess what kind of dog it was that did it? Pit bulls. Many of them family dogs that have never had a history of being aggressive to family members.

db:
quote:

All
Yeah, I call bullshite.

nurse (in pertinent part): Why is that?

db: Because pits aren't the only dogs that severely injure or kill people. I wouldn't even argue they aren't a significant portion, but your "all" statement is anecdotal nonsense and factually incorrect.

Seems like you got confused as to what you said somewhere along the line. Happens to the best of us.

Indeed. Glad your confusion has been cleared up.

Here's your real problem:

He has a pitbull and doesn't want to admit they are shitty dogs.

Don't be upset, bud.

And that is the truth. I didn't say that all children maimed by dogs were from pitbulls alone. I only said what I'VE SEEN MYSELF AT WORK.

Like 98% of my patients are Hispanic. Pitbulls(and mixed breeds with pit in them) are VERY popular in the neighborhoods/area my hospital serves. So it's not a huge stretch at all that there would be more pitbull bites seen in our ERs. Again...I'm sure numerous children come to our ERs with dogbites from other breeds...however...the children that need to be admitted from the ER to the actual hospital...THAT I'VE PERSONALLY CARED FOR in the 9 years I've worked at this hospital....were from pit bull bites.

Have there been other breeds of dogbites on our floor...I'm sure there has been. But I didn't care for them. My whole story was about what I've seen myself.

What's anecdotal about what she said? She said all the kids she's treated in the hospital for dog attacks are due to pitbulls.

ETA: Maybe you thought she said all dog attacks are due to pitbulls? Idk. But it's no big deal. We all make mistakes while reading.

You appear to have some overly emotional attachment to the breed of dog others own. That's your problem. It certainly isn't anyone else's.

Yes, as does any animal that is similar in appearance.

For most. You seem to be struggling for some reason.

It's always baffled me why people are so afraid to admit they are wrong to complete strangers on the internet. Is it for e-cred? Just a natural hatred of being wrong?

It would be interesting study.

Overly emotional? I just think they are shitty dogs and bash them on occasion. They do not deserve names. Even with my friends' pitbulls, I just call them pibull #1, #2, etc.

I don't doubt that pit bulls are more likely to be involved in violence against humans. However, I suspect that pit bulls are more likely to be owned by lower SES and lower IQ people, potentially explaining some of the difference. I'd like to see the data about the owners of animals involved in such attacks.

There you go. Ask questions as necessary.

I'm not sure. You've been wrong twice in this thread alone, and I haven't seen you admit to it in either instance.

me and the old lady were at the park just yesterday walking our 2 dogs. 4 year old retired greyhound. 6 month old vizsla. A white couple walks past us with 2 pitbulls nearly pulling them over while growling.

girlfriend, "why would a white couple have pitbulls. that's just trashy"

truth.
