Texas Guides...a Devillier owned the camp, but most of us were contract guides. our place was just north of I-10 on FM 1410, just east of all the Jenkins properties. this was back in the late 80's/early to mid 90's...we had about 5000 to 7000 acres under lease, the vast majority were fields and crawfish farms (Haley Ray, etc). mostly myself, Tim Young, Blaine Freiermood, Mickey Eastman and Bobby Campbell but it varied some years on who was running hunts. had a bit of property off White's Ranch Road and the occasional field south of Winnie toward Anahuac. paid my way through LSU guiding, and had some damn good times. i miss it for a variety of reasons, but don't miss it for additional reasons.

i'm still mad at the ducks and live in Waco now...we smoke 'em.

That's an eclectic list for sure.....

Yep, I know all of that area. I didn't move to H-town until mid-90's though. I started hunting down at Leggett's place near Smith Point when I moved here and also guided for Brian Davenport at Fin & Fowl Outfitters when our lodge was down at Jackson's Ranch (pre-Ike). Used to have a personal lease up near China too for a while. About the 2000's the hunting over there started sucking arse so we moved down to El Campo/Wharton area then over towards Danbury off FM 2004 but came back to the Eastside about 10 years ago. Pretty much now hunt with Brian Davenport again, plus Brian Fischer at Drake Plantation, and do some hunts on Jenkins as well.

lol...you know an old friend of mine, Rian Glasscock. Rian and and i go way back, even before he was a part of Fin and Fowl with Tony.

yeah...same roads, just a few years apart.

and the hunting sucks around there now. i grew up in South Jefferson county (PN) and it's very sad for me as i have a lot of great memories and no short of nostalgia for the area and people.

LOL, yeah I know that rif raff. I know him through Justin Leggett mainly. Don't know if you know the Leggett Ranch or East Bay Rod & Gun but that place was awesome. It was owned by the Brown Foundation and sadly, Dee Leggett lost it last year. Damn 2020. I would stack a couple of spots in that marsh against any other place on the Gulf Coast. I think the Miller Light distributor guy in H-town has it now. Almost made me want to start drinking Bud Light....

you could get a very nice place under 360K

You can get a very nice place in almost any HOuston suburb for less than $360k. I agree with the posters who say Kingwood, Atascosita, Seabrook, Kemah, Clear Lake.

Look really hard at what has flooded and normal street flooding as well. Look at traffic during rush hour.

been a minute, but i remember it...just south of Double Bayou. i wanna say they were close to Lake Surprise and whatnot. had no idea Dee passed...that's the close of a generation. i'd occasionally hunt just east of there on Oyster Bayou hunt club, but only by invite...and we'd reciprocate. they all knew each other, and we did as well.

when it dried up i went south and started hunting out of Sargent between East Matagorda and Cedar Lakes. then life started and i got a real job doing real shite. i mostly just hunt tanks and ponds in CenTex, but we see and kill a lot of birds, it's good hunting around here with zero pressure. it can be embarrassingly good at times.

but do so miss the coastal plains...sitting in the grass hunkered down, watching my gun rust by the second. i need to get back for the sake of memories if nothing else.

That's it. Their old marsh is right on the North shoreline of East Bay. No, Dee is still alive, just lost the property.

Oyster Bayou is also alive and well too. Gene is still kicking and still running hunts.

My daughter and son-in-law live there. Stay away from Baytown. Mont Belview has fantastic schools if you have kids.

ETA : I don’t like Garth Road. The rest of Baytown may be nice.

But not too far south. I’d avoid Baytown altogether.

And best of all, Chambers county has a DGAF attitude when it comes to masks. Harris county OTOH, betta have that mask on when you step out of the house.

Mont Belvieu is also one of the fastest growing communities in the Houston area, at least that's what I am told. So give that a thought because what it's lacking now it might have in the near future.

I lived in the Seabrook area up until about 6 years ago, League City now which I guess you could still say is that area.
