Naysa Modi is officially in the final rounds of Scripps National Spelling Bee. Forty competitors will compete on Thursday. Part 1 will be on ESPN 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Part 2 will be on ESPN from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Round 1 consisted of a written preliminary test. In Round 2, Naysa successfully spelled "quadrilingual," and in Round 3, the spelled "marginalize."

Her mother, Vaishali Modi, said Naysa studies four to five hours after school each day and can put in as much as eight hours a day studying on weekends.

Naysa said she studies as many hours a day as she can "without breaking," especially as the bee approaches.

Too bad that no one cares about national spelling bee champ on your resume.

No one cares about a lot of stuff on your resume, but good for her for self determination and accomplishment though. Not something I'd put her down over.

Awesome for her but it seems like a huge waste of time.

I agree, but so is stuff like baseball. Different pursuits for different folks.

So you think something like that doesn't show work ethic and dedication? I think it does. Good on her.

A kid from my wife's school in Crowley made it to the last round that wasn't televised...round 3 I think. He is a regular kid that plays football, baseball, and leads a normal kid life. To me that is more impressive than these professional spelling bee participants....8 hour practices on weekends

I bet it's better than putting Baton Rouge Open 12u travel ball tournament champions on your resume

yeah, many of these kids are basically professional spelling bee participants - parents acting as their manager and agent. Some of it borders on kid beauty pageant creepiness.
