quote:we used to DREAM of wearing a ball gown, it would have been luxury to us... I had to wear my father's bra and capri slacks to work in the mines at 4 AM half an hour before I went to bed
Nobody said anything when I wore my sisters ball gown to my prom... It's not like I was gay or anything, we were poor and hand me downs were all I had as a young man.

Why not go with the tuxedo dress?? best of both worlds

My daughter's school recently had a semi-formal dance and the dressing guidelines were on the back of the ticket (like no strapless dresses, dresses can't be too short, guys should wear a collared shirt, belt, and dress slacks).
When I was dropping her off, we actually saw one boy wearing a tux, and my daughter (not gay) said what if a girl wanted to wear a tux? I told her that has happened in some schools, and that most people are more concerned with the girls wearing too-sleazy outfits, as evidenced by the guidelines.

I wonder if they would let her in wearing a suit?

It's like this with kids. You have to have strict laws or they will run all over you. So you let one girl wear a tux. The next year 5 more will be demanding to express themselves by wearing bikinis. Pretty soon prom is a joke; ruined for the 90% of the kids who want a traditional prom.

I work with kids and I know what they do
It's not a gay issue; its a control issue.
Next year some jackass boy will be showing up in a prom dress.

Yeah but he is still within the parameters of a "tux". Ugly, yes-but not breaking any rules.

Yep but then comes the parent phone calls. Whining about traditional prom. Bad PR and too many fuzzy lines. A school must maintain control.
