I can't think of a better place for this to happen.

The problem isn't too much freedom of speech, or that people are more stupid than they used to be. It's just that stupid people have avenues to get out their stupid thoughts. Also, the prevalent sentiment that because you have freedom of speech means you don't need to actually think before it's exercised.

Yeah, because these clowns bringing guns and drawing pictures of their prophet outside of a mosque is "treading lightly"

This isn't about the First Amendment, it's about a bunch of dicks being a bunch of dicks. I don't get the point of deliberately trying to be offensive to any group of people. Absolutely nothing positive will come from this.

It's art, bro.

years ago someone was murdered for drawing Mohammad. It made the news and the shock of such and idea and event had Americans furious. Over time it has happened quite a bit and now Americans don't seem to be as mad about the idea. Americans say things now like well they did ask us to stop drawing him.

Slowly getting their way

You're right. It's about telling the Islamic Extremist bullies to frick off and/or bring it.

The world is growing tired of their shtick.

My 8th grade teacher would punish ALL the boys if any of us misbehaved. It felt wrong. It was wrong. It made us dislike the teacher even more than we already did. Eventually we grew to despise her.
Imagine yourself to be a Muslim that doesn't support ISIS, terrorism, etc. You were born to Muslim parents and just want to live your life as a Muslim. Now you have people, for no good reason at all, pissing on what you hold sacred. What will that lead to?
I know that Islam at its core is messed up. But there are a billion Muslims in the world. We are not going to kill them all (and if you want to, what's the matter with you?). Our best hope re: Islam is to minimize the appeal of its more fundamentalist/radical elements. We don't need to bow to their efforts to curb our free speech, but we shouldn't go out of our way to deliberately make all Muslims feel that we are attacking them.

We currently live in a country where people can write and publish this kind of stuff without legal punishment.

To use an actual example. There was a guy who worked in ammunition and arms procurement for the DHS. While he was buying billions of rounds he was also running a website that called for an impending race war and that all whites and anyone who has sexual intercourse with a white, straight or homosexual, to be killed.

He kept his job...

Meh freedom is kinda gay. We have freedom of speech we get tabloid trash journalism. We have freedom of religion and we get polygamists in Utah and whatever Tom Cruise is. I'm just suggesting that maybe we tone it down a little bit with all the freedom.

same types attending this are the ones that violently protest flag burnings. basically, they're fricking mongoloids.

best case scenario is that a huge fire fight breaks out and all the trash (on both sides) gets killed

-------------------------------------------------------------

When the Super Bowl was last in N.O. (Ravens v 49ers) a few years ago, the Westboro assholes came to town. There were about a dozen of them set up on Loyola a block or so from Poydras. They had their standard God Hates soldiers, figs, etc. signs. One female NOPD officer was leaning on the hood of her car to keep an eye on them.

As we walked towards the Dome, I spotted them and watched for crowd reaction. The vast majority ignored them completely, a few flipped them off or spit as they walked by. A couple of people stopped to talk to the cop, who looked completely bored and annoyed that she had to babysit those assholes.

Westboro accomplished nothing that day, aside from making a few people hate them even more.
