Mindless entertainment

Do you ever stop to think what you are doing with your life?
Are you surfing the internet on your phone while watching TV at the same time? 2 sources of input designed to program you to not think for yourself.
What percentage of people actually think their own thoughts instead of repeating whats drilled into their minds from the non stop ads/garbage on social media?
Human existence is in such a sad state.

What did you watch to make you have this original thought?

Its just wild to think about. We spend so much time seeking constant entertainment to keep our minds occupied that people rarely stop to think about what they want out of life or who/what they are as individuals.
People are being programmed to be mindless parrots

Yes, but trying to figure this out might be doing more harm than just binge watching netflix.

I have enough to worry about and stress about 80-90 hours a week. I am perfectly fine with some mindless entertainment.

I’m 36 and sometimes think the same. Granted, I’m not in what I would consider crisis mode, but I’m searching for purpose.
I’m a teacher, have a beautiful wife, financially ok. I wish I could go to more events like LSU football, or winter trips, things of that nature. I feel like those personal experiences would validate me a bit more.
I also wonder if I have any net positive impact on people. I mean, when I’m gone, will I have done or left anything of value? I ask, because I recently lost my last surviving grandparent. My four grandparents traveled the world, served in wars, flew planes, one was a carpenter and could make anything out of wood, one learned how to manage a small ranch when she was in her 70’s. The list goes on.
Comparatively, I can’t approach those experiences and legacies.

I'm disappointed. I thought you would provide a link for me to click to get some mindless entertainment.

1) I don’t think there is harm in occasional mindless fun in what can be a pretty toxic and negative world
2) I think there is an epidemic of people chasing the next dopamine “hit” online and via outside elements and it’s leading to mass psychosis, depression and detachment from society
3) I can’t speak for others, but personally I’ve found positive changes by focusing on being fully present in life situations, trying my best to set aside time for light meditation/prayer to recenter after things get crazy and most importantly through trying to perform small random acts of kindness and sending positivity into the world whenever possible.
I also remind myself constantly that I don’t need to fix the world every waking moment, but that I shouldn’t waste the time I’ve been given because it’s a gift.
Our great grandparents didn’t spend too much time worrying about this stuff because they were doing manual labor to try to survive and avoid hunger. We are all very blessed in many ways despite what you hear, we just need to figure out how to live healthy lives in an era of overindulgence and unsound socialization.
