Colonel in direct conversation, Lieutenant Colonel when referring in outside dialog or correspondence.
Make sure you remind him he only has a 10% chance of making full bird.

Email or written correspondence call him Lt Col
On the phone Col is fine. But if you get his aide be sure to ask Lt Col Chicken

Make sure you include "chicken" when addressing him.

In A-gang we always got the most junior officer as our Div-O and of course we treated him like shite. It was always "I can't wait til another guy gets here so I can get away from you assholes". Then he'd get replaced and go back aft with the nukes... and it was "I miss you guys".
Well nukes are an interesting community. Os and Es are both super smart, and that creates some unique dynamics. They can be a pretty strange bunch, too. On the carrier we pretty much only saw ours in the Wardroom when there was some all-hands or something else with the XO. They had the bearing of people who'd just emerged from an enslaved underground colony that had kept them isolated from developments in the outside world. I guess working on the 8th deck in the Reactor department will do that to you. And they were on 3-section duty for the entire two years that I was there minus our DPIA (dry dock overhaul) period. The rest of us were on 4 underway and 8 in port.

quote:Good luck with your package. My best friend my first three years in was a 13 year LDO. Good dude. His dad was an ISCM who dropped a package and retired as a LCDR (how many Master chiefs are willing to become Ensigns, right). He had some great stories about growing up white in Hawaii.
fwiw...fixing to drop an LDO package this year..

Either complete nerd weirdos playing Dungeons and Dragons and jerking off to Japanime... or evil geniuses. There really is no in-between. One extreme or the other.
When I stood roving watch I hated going to maneuvering. One time I got to the door and all the lights were off. I opened the door and all I could see was a reddish glow. The lights came on and there's one of the nukes standing with his nutsack stretched completely over a battle lantern. I just shut the door and kept on going.

Cousin's husband went from E to O in the AF. He's a Captain now and right in the middle of trying to get that missile unit that failed its readiness test up to speed. I think he wishes he was still a SGT.

All of my former enlisted buddies either got out or went officer. One of my bros is an O-2E now and was telling me that he just got put in charge of Quality Assurance b/c the previous guy fricked it up so bad. He's hating life right now. During our conversation he kept repeating "It's not funny" because I was laughing so much.

I left the Navy as an E-4, and now working for the Fed. Gov. I equal to an O-2.
