Maybe it was someone from Thibodaux and they decided to buzz some friends.

I recently saw Apache or Cobra (not going to pretend I can tell the difference) flying very low around the Superdome and CBD about a month ago. They are amazing looking and highly intimidating.

The Cobras are smalled in comparison to the apache, but I probably wouldn't be able to tell the two apart either.

Any tell tale signs, heli guys?

Anyone know why, there was a military helicopter flying low and circling around Thibodaux?

It was looking for the extra comma you put in there.

Question I will pose in this thread. Around 1991-92 we were up north of Toomey I believe for some damned reason. Remember this is over 20 years ago and I was damn near black out "college drunk". Buddy is driving and we see a Apache style helicopter hovering in a clearing of trees.

Fort Polk is of course nearby. Was this common for them to possibly do this at that time? I swear the thing turned as we drove by. Just hovering and rotating.

Yes. That's a lot of what they do in a combat situation.

for a couple of days last week, I saw 3 Apache's escorting a Chinook Helicopter up here in Shreveport. They were also flying pretty low.

As you look at the nose of an Apache, the fuselage is narrow. A Cobra is VERY narrow. A Cobra only has two rotor blades, that you can't distinguish in flight, but they are quite loud.

I believe only Army Aviation flys Apaches and they are usually olive or desert tan. Marine/Navy Cobras are typically gray, at least around here. They may very well also be tan in the war zones.

Cobra has skids.

Apache has wheeled landing gear.

If you don't know the two aircraft, that would be an easy, quick tell-tale.

Lots of pine trees and foliage in the desert (which would have been focus in 91-93) to hide a noisy as frick helicopter. Seems perfectly practical.

Or.... I was plastered. Or.... Couple pilots bored on a Saturday.

There are undulations in terrain all over the globe, whether it be the mountains of Afghanistan or any other topographical highs and lows.

I would assume they were practicing just low to the ground maneuvers in general.

We saw some too, they were flying so low we went outside to have a look. Only we saw 3 Chinooks with escorts. They were heading East over the base.
