91 years old. He was on a destroyer offshore. Can't see or hear very well but very sharp. Still worked on his farm until last year

See if you can find out which Destroyer. My Grandfather was on one off Iwo Jima (or Okinawa, I get them mixed) as well.

My grandpa was in the Navy and went to Iwo as well. He is still alive and kicking at 92 years old. I have a Jap rifle he took off a dead Jap and some other incredible artifacts.

Greatest generation, by far. Those that served and those that were at home. Citizens back then were to busy rationing supplies and checking casualty reports to protest the president or illegals or whatever.

Prior to the invasion, Dad flew USMC B-24's taking photographs over Iwo.

We are losing them quickly. My grandpa was POW in Germany for three years. Stories that old men could tell.

I hope you told him thank you for all he did.

I will just leave this here. It is about the Defense Plant riots in Detroit. Happened other places too.

I had a great-uncle at Iwo. Went through basic, got shipped overseas, and his first day in combat his leg got shredded by shrapnel and spent the rest of the war in hospitals in Guam and Hawaii. He said he was a lucky s.o.b.!

The same generation that fought in wwii was the same generation that passed civil rights laws in the 60s.

My dad was on Okinawa.

He died in 1989.

I have a relation by marriage who was on Corregidor and did Bataan and then was slave laborer for the Japanese until 8-45.

97 years old and still drives. Devil dog.

Right now this generation is fighting the greatest of all fights. We are fighting against fascism, racism, islamophobia and seeking protections for women, trans, and genderqueers. We literally have Nazis in the White House and people are living in fear every. single. day. I'm not taking away from those guys who fought in Vietnam but we're facing the mother of all wars right now.

Not a safe job at that time. The Marines flying those recon missions and the B-25Js are often overlooked.

Had an uncle on a destroyer then as well, passed away a few years ago. He always said that he would never eat french fries again as the Navy served them with every meal & they were "fricking horrible". Went over 50 years without.

I just hope one day that I can recall what I did during the great Meme Wars of the 21st century so I can tell my grandchildren that I just didn't sit on the sidelines.

Forward! The Pepe Brigade!
