Earlier this week I went to the Home Depot in Kenner. It's just dingy. In general Home Depot is like this. I prefer Lowes myself.

But... last year I had the pleasure of shopping at the crown of the Midwest... Menard's. Any Menard's fans here? It is amazingly better than HD or Lowes.

A friend from Iowa told me about this. I went to the one in Branson (on a trip with my parents). It is very nice.

Used to live in STL. Menards are huge. Multi level huge. I hated going in there because itd always end up walking 3 miles trying to find simple things.

Stine's is probably the best IMO.

Anyone on here know about Rural King? There's one about to open where I live. Never heard of them.

Menards is awesome. Usually pass through the one in Paducah Ky when I am up there. You can put Lowes and HD inside Menards.

Menard's signage looks similar to Stine's. Are they connected at all?

Not a fan of Lowes, but they are significantly ahead of Home Despot, at least here in LA. Stines is better than both IMO.

They're all a crapshoot. Local hardware stores usually beat them all.

I've never seen a "dingy" Home Depot, but, generally speaking, I have noticed that many national chain stores are quite dingy in and around the NOLA and BR areas.

Rural King has everything from lawn tractors to horse shoes. It's a great place to meander around eating free popcorn.

Yep. My local ACE is my go to. Never have to hunt someone down for help and they actually hire people that knows tools, home improvement, etc.

I have a Menards a half mile from my house and I love it.

It's dangerous though because I'll walk in on a Saturday morning just to pick up some light bulbs or birdseed, and walk out with a basket full of snacks and other shite I don't need that was on sale.

Which Lowe's are y'all going to? Mine is awful. Understaffed, nothing in stock, what they do have is still sitting on pallets in the middle of the aisle.

Guess it’s personal preference. I can’t stand Lowe’s. To me they lean too far towards the “light user” demographic. Home Depot leans more towards the “contractor” crowd and people who know what they want and what they’re doing.

Still can’t beat the ease of going into an ACE though. 2 minutes in and out to get the one random screw I need. The big box stores are a half hour hopeless hunt for that type of thing.
