Men vs. Women: Chess

Watching Rogan's interview with Riley Gaines & Rogan brought up that there are no female world champion chess players; Gaines said very little to no female players, period. Both were just commenting, no issues between them. As an aside, Gaines said she had dropped one of her SEC swimming trophies while getting back at Obermann's rant against her & the SEC had promptly sent her a new one.

IIRC men and women have essentially the same average IQ but women's is more clustered around the mean, while men have more outliers at both ends of the distribution curve. More geniuses = more chess grandmasters.

women are better schemers and planners, so that "should" make them much better chess players.
problem is, women are also very impatient so that hampers them and they get frustrated and start to make mistakes, and that is why you dont see women at the top of chess matches

Thanks. Had to be a reason though neither got into it.

If you put them on a full distribution, you'd find exactly that.
from the 25th to 75th percentile, its very likely women would predominate decisively over men.
The bottom quartile and top quartile both would be overwhelmingly male-- the moreso you got to each end of the distribution.

Bowling, darts, pool
There are countless games that strength shouldn’t matter but men excel more than women.

Not just that but in general men are more competitive and endure stress better than women.

Men are better at visual perception. I watch soccer, I'm paying less attention to who has the ball than where the rest of the team is, the angles, etc. Men also have a higher rate of Aspy, at over 4X. The more single minded anyone can be, the more likely they are to be successful in a chess match. Are you thinking about banging Veronika Rajek in the middle of the match, or are you doing a deep pull on some book you read about a defense strategy in 1985?

One thing about chess and some other non-strength competitions you have to take into account is the number of girls that ever take up the pursuit. This alone gives men an advantage.
While that does give men an advantage it likely isn't the main and certainly not the only reason. The top-ranked women are just outside the top 100 men's ranking and the way chess ELO is determined is more or less an apples-to-apples comparison. Interestingly, 4 of the top 5 women players are from China, a place where they identify good players early and push them.

I married a very manipulative women who was a good chess player. After wasting a year and a half in the relationship, I really felt Rooked by this Queen. She made me feel like a Pawn, Knight and day. I decided to talk to the Bishop about getting an annulment. He asked me if I ever felt like a King in his Castle, or did my wife ignore me? I told him that as a Mate, she never Checked that box.

I would also suspect that the bell curve for dispassionate, pure strategic thinking for men is centered around a larger mean than for women (which seems to be a valuable evolved trait if you need to get the warriors in your tribe to take the resources of another), just as I suspect the bell curve for empathetic, compassionate thinking for women is centered around a larger mean than for men (which seems to be a valuable evolved trait if you want to successfully raise an infant into adulthood).
I might be wrong, but the hypothesis feels like it at least has internal logic to it. So if some of those evolved traits filter into making men better, at the extremes, than women at this one, small, meaningless game, then I can’t imagine why anyone would ever have a problem with it.
So of course, some nutjob will inevitably call the whole sport sexist

That may have a little to do with it but I think the biggest factor is that men tend to be much more adept spacial intuitiveness which, for all of those games, is paramount.
