For those of you who don't want to pay
Highlights
Highlights
quote:
The final language in the Act declared that the penalty “shall be paid upon notice and demand” which sounds really intimidating
quote:
The language in the Act specifically rules out jail time, saying at Section 500A(g)(2)(A):
In the case of any failure by a taxpayer to timely pay any penalty imposed by this section, such taxpayer shall not be subject to any criminal prosecution or penalty with respect to such failure.
quote:
At 500A(g)(2)(B)(i), the Treasury cannot “file notice of lien with respect to any property of a taxpayer by reason of any failure to pay the penalty imposed by this section.”
So, no liens.
quote:
Then, clearly there will be levies or seizures on your wages and account, right?
Nope. Not that either. Under 500A(g)(2)(B)(ii), the Treasury cannot “levy on any such property with respect to such failure.”
quote:
The IRS might seize any part or all of your refund in order to satisfy your obligation. Might. IRS hasn’t come right out and said that it absolutely will offset your refund if you owe a penalty for failure to pay. However, in the Final Regulations issued on this matter, IRS noted that “[n]othing in this section prohibits the Secretary from offsetting any liability for the shared responsibility payment against any overpayment due the taxpayer, in accordance with section 6402(a) and its corresponding regulations.”

Why not just get insurance?

I would be scared to death to not have insurance for myself and my family. I guess that's the mind set of most productive citizens.

How about giving us reasonable and affordable options again?

just make the people pay for it that already were paying for it...the American way

I'm 29, in excellent health and haven't been to a doctor since I was 23.
I get what you're going for, but I'm not buying it.

frick you Republicans for unanimously blocking the public option. Why do you insist on being insurance company's bitch and pay the insanely high premium out the arse every month?

Don't ask me.

If you haven't been to a doctor in 6 years, how do you really know you are in excellent health?

Even in your situation you should look into getting a policy to cover a catastrophic event. One serious car wreck and you're declaring bankruptcy

So it's like a redflex ticket?

I was 55 and in excellent health and them BOOM. Within the last 14 months I have built up around 200,000 in medical bills.

Fair question. I'll go out and get insurance immediately, to find out how healthy I am from someone who just met me.

The IRS is going to take it from their or your tax refund. Don't think they wont because it is happening right now.

Sucks, sorry man. Maybe once I get older, it would be a good idea, but for now, I see no real benefit other than finding out that I have some shitty terminal disease.

Its simple, pay for health insurance up front or we will get you on the back-end, about time insured stop subsidizing the care of the uninsured

That's why it's important to establish a primary doctor that you go to at least once a year for annual check ups. They will get to know you and your level of health. With my insurance through work we now get a $60/month discount if we get an annual exam with our PCP.
And at least on your first appointment with them, they can do a history with you and run some bloodwork to find out some basic stuff about your health(cholesterol levels, vit D levels, etc, etc).
