So, I went to the ER, got a CT scan, a bag of Flagyl and a bag of fluids.

Drum role.......$10,000!

Holy shite. Thank God for insurance. That is beyond fricking ridiculous.

Actually, insurance is one of the biggest reasons why routine medical stuff costs so much money. they charge what they can because consumers are disconnected from directly paying for it.

Non complicated diverticulitis. No fever either.

Have a history but ER doc just felt a CT was a good idea......had a colonoscopy 2 months prior that verified diverticular disease.

What did you think was going to happen when you walked into an ED?

So not an emergency.

How about you schedule an appointment with your Primary and stop clogging the system gomer.

No shite. That's why your physician ordered a CT. Now shut your hole and pay your bill.

I'm not sure why people are downvoting this when it is true. Insurance isn't the obvious reason a CT scan cost so much, but people don't bat an eye about spending money when they're just paying co-pays and bi-weekly premiums. If they didn't have insurance and had to pay directly, the demand would decrease significantly and the prices would have to come down to compensate.
