A McDonald's customer in Arkansas accused of emptying his cup of water and filling it with soda now faces a robbery charge, police said Tuesday.

The restaurant manager said the suspect was one of three people who asked for water at the drive-thru window in Springdale. The customers parked and walked into the store before dumping out the water and pouring soda into the cups, KHBS/KHOG-TV reports.

The manager spotted the three and told them to return the soda. Only 18-year-old Cody Morris refused, police say.

The manager even ran out and tried to block Morris' car from leaving, but the suspect reportedly drove his vehicle in reverse and hit the worker twice before speeding away.

Police arrested the driver after they said they found his car at a nearby bowling alley. It's unclear whether he'll face any additional charges aside from felony robbery.

Is stealing considered robbery? OK, so be it.

I understand the principle, but is 3 cents worth of soda worth thousands of dollars in litigation? Their workers give out more free food than a soda's worth, assuredly.

Trash is gonna be trash regardless.

Chasing someone into the parking lot at your $10/hr job because they didn't pay for 12 ounces of soda?

Oh. Okay.

I think it became robbery when the manager told him to put it back.

Robbery often requires the use of force or intimidation in addition to taking property. When the pink used his car to bump the manager and make his escape, he used force to accomplish the crime and arguably went from thief to robber.

Something tells me this was not the first time this happened. That manager was sick of those coke stealing punks.

They probably lose hundreds of thousands in revenue daily to "water cup" sodas. They should make an example out of this kid.

I perceive a "robbery", namely a felony robbery, to involve high-value items physically taken against the will of a person while using of some sort of weapon during the act.

The kid filled up a fricking soda cup that retails @ ~$1.75. I'm no attorney or police officer, but this sure sounds more like a misdemeanor theft charge. Glad to see taxpayer money being used well. Sentence that little shite to 300 hours of community service, his arrogant attitude will just love that.
