It is such a sad situation. The entire community has to be grieving. Prayers to all and especially to the victims families.

So should we get rid of all guns? If not how can we find a balance?

I also drove by the Grand 16 last night. Crime tape around the whole parking lot and theatre. Very dark for a Saturday night, when everything should be lit up. The darkness will pass.

The town is grieving, but also rallying to support the victims and families. Signs are going up, billboards are too #LafayetteStrong. I love this community I call home!

I am glad the shooter is dead. At least it puts a period on that aspect of this awful incident. No trial, appeals, etc.

Not sure we'll ever know why he chose Lafayette. But this interview helps me understand the guy's motives:

The firearm is not the problem. Guns don't run around by themselves killing people. They don't change a person's mental stability with their presence. It is a culture where getting glamorized for killings is the first problem. A culture where you blame your own personal failings on the next person for whatever reason is also the problem. A society that condones condenming others for all your problems.
It guns were the problem then we would see members like IDPA and IPSC, CMP and other several million competitors lining graveyards. Thats not happening. Neither do we see title 2 owners shooting people in gun free zones.

Also, criminals and nut jobs don't comply with gun laws. The theater shooter changed the plates on his vehicle without authorization: that's illegal. He shot people trying to enjoy a damn movie: that's illegal. There are more than 300 million guns in circulation in the USA. We have a 2nd amendment, and we have always had a gun culture. That's who we are, and who we have always been. Unless people are prepared to TRY to confiscate those 300 million guns, its all just feel-good talk that ends up punishing law-abiding citizens.

I wish the media would quit calling this guy the Louisiana shooter. Maybe they could use his name.

I have lost all respect for national media. Being a close friend to the family of Julian I can confirm the media found all the phone numbers of each, blowing up their phones non stop. Msnbc actually went to the house where the father has been staying the last couple of days. . How they get the info I don't know but that is utterly and unequivocally sick and barbaric.

I dunno about that. I would think it may be better in the long run not to ever give out the name of these criminals. Some do it for glory. This guy was a total nut job but some of the others in the past seem to like the notoriety.

Do you watch tv or listen to a radio at all. If not I can understand this ignorant statement. If you do I don't think your level of stupid is fixable.

Typically a family memeber unwittingly gives it out.

He should have pulled the old school method and baited them to ealk in without an invite and unleashed holy hell on them.

The media is full of scum.

We were at the movies today, there was a certain...uneasiness in the air.

No please to it. Prior to 1968, felons could own a gun. Guns could be mail ordered to your home. Surplus title 2 firearms could be imported. I grew up seeing gun racks left and right in trucks. Where was all the shootings like we have today? If the gun was part of the problem then why do we have more people killed in beatings than we have all on long guns combined? See FBI uniform crime report put out yearly on their website for that little gem.

The problem we have in this country whether it be guns, drugs or security, the focus on objects rather than the person committing the act is a constant shortcoming.
