Mars 2020 is a Mars rover mission by NASA's Mars Exploration Program with a planned launch in 2020.[1] It will investigate an astrobiologically relevant ancient environment on Mars, investigate its surface geological processes and history, including the assessment of its past habitability, the possibility of past life on Mars, and the potential for preservation of biosignatures within accessible geological materials

The two things that I most hyped about aren't even in that diagram: two on-board microphones.

Had to look up what that’s all about but damn

quote:

When SuperCam fires a laser at a rock, a small amount of the rock vaporizes into a hot gas called "plasma", and heat and vibration creates a shockwave that makes a popping sound. SuperCam’s camera and spectrometer can "read" the hot gas to reveal the chemical makeup of the vaporized rock. At the same time, the microphone hears the staccato "pop" as the laser strikes rock several feet away from the rover.

We've had bad luck with probes/rovers carrying microphones to Mars so far. 0-2. Hope these new mics don't jink the Mars 2020.

A nice idea, but will be cancelled a week before launch because our new AI overlords will deem it an unnecessary expenditure of bitpower better served in the "Great Roundup".

No, that would be incredible though. They just found organic molecules which may or may not signify past life.

NASA is focusing too much on Mars IMO.

I would rather money be spent to explore Europa or Enceladus instead of our dry, dead neighbor.
