This article list the top 10 reasons people get divorced. I actually thought finances were #1 (if not #1, it was higher than #7)
LINK

A guy I work with is in the middle of a nasty divorce that stemmed from them living the "swinger" lifestyle. He never talked about it until the divorce thing happened, but it seems like the perception many have about "swinger" couples is that it never works out, but its kind of a flawed perception because i am sure there are a lot more couples who engage in the "swinger" lifestyle than people realize.. Just because they are discreet about it, but based on the list in the article above, would you say married couples who agree to have multiple sex partners are more likely to gain from it than not?

Absolutely not. If you are openly engaged in these activities, you should expect a shitty outcome.

Why get married if you are having sex with other people. Marriage is about being with someone you love. I dont want my wife sleeping with anyone else, she is mine. I love her. Marriage is about two people becomming one, growing old together, experiencing life together. My wife is my other half, i wouldnt want to share that with anyone else, what good can come of that.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Women always want this, that, and the other.

One of the two is going to get their feelings hurt. No getting around it.

Says a lot about a man if he's willing to let his wife get nailed by another man

Did he say what about this? Did one want to leave the lifestyle and the other wanted to stay?

I always liked Shortyrob's take on this. He offered great insight as to why it worked for some and not others.

It depends on the couple. I think people should think very carefully about whether they can be monogamous, and talk about that before they get married. Actually it should be something that's discussed early in the relationship, at the same time you talk about any kinks/fetishes you have. You don't want to get into a long-term, committed relationship with someone if both of you don't completely understand each other's sexual interests and needs.

But unfortunately, a lot of people feel too ashamed or embarrassed about talking about this stuff because they think they'll be judged by their partner.

Some people aren't going to be happy fricking the same person forever. If that's true, they should talk about that early in the relationship. Once you get married, you're kinda fricked if the other person isn't okay with that.

Long story short: if you try to open a relationship that's been understood to be monogamous AFTER you get married, you have a pretty high chance of fricking it up. But if you're honest from the beginning, and you get to the point of wanting to marry, then you're probably fine.

Love is not a feeling. It's action. It's a decision and commitment. If your wife wants to frick Steve three doors down, she isn't working on that theory.

When I was a teenager, it happened to a family who lived in my neighborhood. It actually became a complete clusterfrick that ended up with the oldest kid completely disowning his parents. The parents & the couple they were swinging with got divorced and ended up marrying the person from the other couple.. The wife, ended up divorcing less than a year of being married again. In that case it completely fricked up two families..But again, what about the relationships that benefit from it?
