So are caffeine and sugar. Sugar withdrawal was recognized medical complaint in the 19th century. There isn't a human alive who hasn't put some form of at least mild intoxicant in their bodies, probably repetitively.

If it is, then root beer is a gateway to beer.
Coca cola and it's caffiene are a gateway to coffee, which is always a gateway to Crystal methamphetamine.
Cigarettes and beer are more of a gateway than anything out there, and can actually harm your body.
Ask Chris Christie, since he has been claiming lately how marijuana is bad..., if mashed potatoes are a gateway to fries, and if he can prove that a triple meat and bacon cheeseburger is less harmful than a bowl.
