No, they aren't electrical wires, they're translucent wires that let Orthodox Jews do things on the Sabbath that they otherwise wouldn't.

quote:

The eruv encircles much of Manhattan, acting as a symbolic boundary that turns the very public streets of the city into a private space, much like one's own home. This allows people to freely communicate and socialize on the Sabbath—and carry whatever they please—without having to worry about breaking Jewish law.

They exist in Manhattan, St. Louis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, and numerous other cities across the country.

I used to be a good shabbos goy and helped a neighbor do tasks on the Sabbath that she couldn't get done. In return she'd make sure our lawn was mowed and cared for. shite like this brings back hilarious stories and memories

They shouldn't need to put up a wire to carry. I don't think they'd have to do that in Louisiana.

Or Texas...

I heard about this a couple of days ago...wish I still had a copy of The Hasidic Jews of Williamsburg.

All I can think of is the Fridge-o-matic Sabbath Zeiger, that is a timer you plug your refrigerator into...that way if you open your refrigerator on the Sabbath and it comes on, you aren't working because the timer says when it can and can't work.

It must be exhausting living your life day to day like that.
