It's probably because much later in the movie with the conversation with James Earl Jones, jones says "people will come" about a billion times when talking about the field. The movie starts off with "if you build it, he will come", combined with "people will come" much later in the movie said repeatedly, along with there being multiple baseball players and a line of cars to see the field the first night....so people "remember" the opening line as not being related to one player, his father, but instead everyone.

Either way, this is a fun topic. There are some things that I'm like "wtf" about, but some of the others ones that folks are so sure about, I remember distinctly as being the way they say it is "now"...so I'm able to understand I probably remembered the other stuff wrong.

I think a lot has to do with your age. I would bet people under 30 experience this much less often than others.

Yep. I think the cutoff is about 30. I am almost 33 and it was Berenstein not Berenstain and C3PO was all gold.
But I don't remember Mandela getting killed. He was 1st president of post-apartheid South Africa in my universe (and ruined what was a great country).

This is actually an excellent point. Since all of this stuff is being tabbed as relatively "new", I wonder why it isn't movie quotes, books, etc from, say, '00 or '01. It's primarily from 30+ years ago. Why no Harry Potter effects?

Yeah, but the wizard of oz wasn't anywhere remotely close to the 2000s. Again, it is from decades ago, and lines and the such have been placed into pop culture and spinoffs occur.
As far as C3PO, I trust that Anthony Daniels isn't in on the conspiracy.

I always thought it was gold, but silver would just reflect stuff though. And they were always in the damn desert, which would reflect a "brownish silver," which would look gold I guess. I may rewatch SW and see for myself.
