A Baker man accused in the September shooting death of LSU basketball player Wayde Sims has penned a letter to the judge handling his second-degree murder case, saying he is "totally remorseful" for the "unfortunate" killing and pleading that his $350,000 bail be lowered.

"Sir my reason for writing this brief notation is to inquire and ask of you to please take into consideration as for giving me a bond reduction," Dyteon Simpson, 20, states in a one-page handwritten letter to state District Judge Don Johnson that was filed into the court record Thursday.

Simpson, the father of a 5-month-old son “that I love very much,” says his mother is a single parent of five children — with him being her eldest son "and her back bone" — and they need and depend on him, his letter states.

He describes himself as a "very productive and independent young man" who was working and attending college when the shooting occurred Sept. 28.

Simpson, who faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder, confessed to punching Sims’ friend and then intentionally shooting Sims.

Wayde's family wants Wayde back. If the killer can arrange that trade, I'm sure they'd agree to the reduction.

Sad that his son is going to grow up with his father in prison for life, but that's what happens when you murder someone.

Looks like no bottom lip or has a dip.

Also, needed to concentrate more on skincare than murder.

Sorry? At least he still has his life.

Anything less than life would be unacceptable.

I missed the story here. Did he confess because he thought it was a self defense situation?

None of you would care if Sims wasnt an LSU basketball player

Most of the comments would be "just another thug off the street"

This dude shouldn't have his bond reduced regardless of the victim.

That quote should be in a criminal justice textbook as the definition of unremorseful and self-serving.

If someone is trying to take responsibility for their heinous actions, they don’t say “I’m totally remorseful, so now give me what I want.”

Was Sims a thug? Who would make that assumption?

An actual college student who was senselessly shot during an argument. Not over drugs, and not intoxicated at the time, right?

Why would you say that everyone would assume he was a thug without hints that he was a thug?

I think you’re the racist since you can’t seem to differentiate between different characteristics of young black men.

Well Dyteon had you had a pair of balls instead of a gun and just thrown punches you wouldn't be in this predicament. More importantly, Wayde would still be with us living his best life and kicking arse for LSU. But you had to be a thug and carry a gun. so you can GFYS.
