Man sues California Lottery after teen son’s $5 million jackpot denied

LINK w/ video
Letting your kids get lottery tickets
And the commission for not letting him win
And to the family and the gas station not working out some secret deal that allowed for the $5 million prize
What should have happened:
Lottery winner dad: " Hey, my son just got a ticket here that won $5 M. There is a chance they might not pay because he is under age. "
Store manager: "OK, I'll claim that you really bought the ticket Mr. winner, and I'll take a percentage of your winnings, so I can damage this video of your kid buying the ticket."
Lottery winner dad: "deal."
quote:
A family is now suing the California Lottery Commission after they refused to pay the family their $5 million winnings. The reason is the person who bought the winning ticket is only 16 years old.
When the father of the teen went into the Long Beach gas station to claim the prize, they said they would not give it to them. The man is now suing the commission and gas station saying the clerk never ID’d his son when he went in to buy the ticket.
A legal analyst says the family most likely will not win the lawsuit because the boy was not of legal age to buy the ticket.

Which would be a federal crime. Idiots have tried this before. If you think family argues about money you should see strangers try to split millions.

First, how would they even know who bought the ticket? Second, if there's an age restriction then the seller should have verified the young man's age before the transaction took place. Does the seller also sell alcohol to minors? My guess is the family won't win the case against the state of California but there should be a settlement against the gas station and the gas station will probably be in some legal trouble.

Sounds like the same mentality of many in our prison system now. How about the family just does the honest thing, learn from the mistake, and move on. Is $5 million really that important that you would lie and include your son in a fraud scam?

Or just waited til they taped over the footage. You got what, like a year to claim a ticket and gas stations keep footage for like a day or two?

States like California and Illanoy are looking for anyway out of paying anything off. You give them the out, they will use it.
When ur state is broke, the people are your registers, stick it up their asses

Its California. They do pretty dumb shite all the time. I'm sure they'll end up paying him.

It would cost them a hell of a lot more than 5mil if they participated in illegal gambling.

You know this family is retarded since they went into a gas station to claim a $5 million prize.

the gas station committed a very minor crime
that doesn't mean they're liable. these lottery tickets are essentially contractual agreements involving a wager. a 16 year old cannot enter this contract because (1) the minor isn't of the age of majority and (2) these contracts are subject to a regulatory scheme that null the agreements if not made by certain persons the regulatory scheme allows to make these wagers.
the convenience store selling the minor the illegal wager creates no liability because there was no legal agreement for the wager made (for the 2 reasons i listed above)

Do they allow illegals to buy tickets and win?
ETA I add this because in the rules it says you have to be over a certain age and you also have to be a legal resident to win. So I'm asking if they allow illegals to win the lottery? And if so the boy should be able to win the 5 million.

i'd take a felony and possibly do some jail time for $5M (under the right circumstances. i'm not going to allow somebody to die for that $5M)
let's be real
