He wasn't defending his home. He executed the intruders after he successfully defended it from them.

If one of the burglars had lived would they have been charged with murder?

Both sides where wrong in this situation

Charged with murder for getting killed while unarmed?

Damn, they just happened to pick the most twisted sob in the neighborhood to rob.

There is defending your home, and theres blatant execution

Yep, the victims are definitely the criminals in this. It's a shame that the home owner just didn't let them steal his stuff and not try and stop it

I agree that the guy is a horrible human being and conducted himself horribly.
But.....
I doubt the home defense laws wherever this happened say anything about having to be polite when shooting home invaders.
He should not have been convicted of murder for shooting two people that broke into his home, even if his conduct was revolting during and after the act.

In a lot of places, if someone is killed during the commission of a crime, the perps can be charged with murder.
Same thing goes if you and a buddy try to stick up a gas station. Attendant kills your buddy, you get charged with murder

I think the recording and execution did him in. One he winged them where they weren't going to cause him any harm he should have called 911. He wouldn't be in jail if he had and they may have lived to regret their decision or may not have but he would have defended his home successfully and not be in jail over it.

He admitted he executed them and then waited a day to call the police. There's defending yourself and your property, and then there's this.
You know, you're right, but then here's that thing that keeps popping up that just won't go away...
If they wouldn't have broken in, absolutely none of this would have happened to them. They aren't some innocent people who got shot. They are in all actuality fricking criminals who broke into a person' home, and so in my mind, if they end up dead, so fricking what? Don't break into people's homes and you won't end up dead. Cause.... Effect..... Stop the cause, and you don't get the effect.

You know, there's a way to completely prevent that from happening. I'll give you a little and let's see if you can figure out what that fool proof way is...

Whos saying they were innocent?
No one would care if he would have let them be after they were shot and laying on the ground wounded and called the police immediately

I don't care period. I am not saying I would do that, but I am saying I don't really care.

Minnesota state law:
"The intentional taking of the life of another is not authorized [...] except when necessary in resisting or preventing an offense which the actor reasonably believes exposes the actor or another to great bodily harm or death, or preventing the commission of a felony in the actor's place of abode."
Emotionally, sure you want to see the guy punished.
But, how did he break this law?
