Man gets 'FBI Warning' pop-up, goes to cops, gets arrested for child porn

quote:

A man from just outside of Washington, DC turned himself in to local police—with his computer in tow—after receiving a pop-up message from what he believed was an “FBI Warning” telling him to click to pay a fine online, or face an investigation.

Police said Jay Matthew Riley, 21, of Woodbridge, Virginia, walked into Prince William’s Garfield District Station on July 1, 2013 to “inquire if he had any warrants on file for child pornography.”

"The accused voluntarily brought his computer to the station and, following a search, several inappropriate messages and photos of underage girls were recovered. Detectives were able to identify one of the girls as a 13 year old from Minnesota. A search warrant was obtained and executed at the home of the accused. As a result, computers and other electronic devices were seized. Following the investigation, the accused was subsequently arrested on July 23rd. The FBI message that the accused had originally received was determined to be a virus and not a legitimate message. The investigation continues."

I've had that virus. It blows, half destroyed my computer. Its freaky when it turns on your webcam and you cant turn it off. Makes you wonder where your image is being sent.

For those who haven't had it, you can get it from anywhere not just porn sites.

I've had it also. Thankfully my laptop was under warranty and we still had Geeksquad.

The only reason viruses aren't prevalent on Macs was because of the different writing language. Plus the fact it wasn't worth a hackers time. To affect the most people windows has always been the way to go. A few viruses have started popping up slowly for Mac as their popularity has increased. If their market share continues to increase one day Macs will be as bad as windows, if not worse because they haven't developed an antivirus for them.

Ransomware viruses are fascinating. Guess this one worked for a good cause.

Would absolutely piss me off though if my computer was effected.

It's called the "ICE" virus. You can google that name and see what it looks like. I got this trying to watch something on firstrowsports website. Scared the hell out of me when it took my picture. It looks legit as hell but what tipped me that it was fake was that it asks you to go buy a moneypak card and enter the code to unlock. I was able to remove it in about a half hour.

The bottom line is if you have a Mac you don't get viruses. Theoretically yes it is possible but I don't know anyone that owns a Mac that has ever gotten one.

The only time I ever come across viruses anymore are from those really obscure sites. I don't even get them from my usual porn sites anymore. No viruses just doesn't justify the price for Macs imo.

They aren't a bad product but I don't find they have much over a PC. Less viruses and infrequent crashes are usually the first things people point out. The fact that Macs can run Windows is another. Hardware is the main issue for me. Most PCs have anywhere from 2 GB to 8 GB of RAM in laptops and desktops, while Macs usually have only 1 GB to 4 GB. Macs typically have smaller hard drives than PCs. This could be because some Mac files and applications are slightly smaller than their PC counterparts. On average, you will still see price gaps of several hundred dollars between comparable Macs and PCs.

I know it is cliche but Macs just work. Every PC I have owned has gotten a virus at some point or slowed down after a year or two but Macs never seem to. Also the quality and design of the computers is as good as it gets. Yes they are more expensive but when you spend hours a day for a few years using something what is a few hundred bucks? If I needed a supercomputer or a gaming computer then yes I would get a PC but for 90% of the people Macs are the way to go.

It's relevant because if this sick frick had bought a Mac he would still be spanking it to pre-teens instead of looking at getting raped in prison, at least until he got caught some other way.
