Nearly one year after Dallas-based Main Event Entertainment announced plans to open its first Louisiana location at Siegen Lane Marketplace, officials with the company confirm those plans are now off.

It’s not clear what caused the deal to fall through, and officials with Olshan Properties, the New York-based real estate company that owns and manages the shopping center, would not elaborate.

In a statement, however, Olshan Properties Head of Retail Ken Marshall says the firm is “actively pursuing other exciting tenant options and remains committed to continuing to provide our customers with a quality tenant mix.”

The Baton Rouge Main Event Entertainment facility was to be located on the site of the former Tinseltown movie theater at 10955 North Mall Dr., which closed in 2008 and sat vacant for more than seven years. It was demolished in 2015 to make way for the new facility, which would have offered bowling, laser tag, billiards, arcade games, food and a full bar.

In its initial announcement, Olshan Properties said Main Event would create more than 100 new jobs in management, sales, technical services, and food and beverage service.

Main Event remains very interested in the Baton Rouge market and is considering a different location, according to a spokesperson with the company. “But it is still in the very early stages,” she says.

Main Event announced the Baton Rouge location in the same week last year that Texas-based Buc-ee’s announced it was also opening its first out-of-state location in Baton Rouge. Buc-ee’s has since terminated its lease at the Greens at Millerville development.

they tore the theater down, got everything ready, and this. Ugh. Now they've spent money for nothing and they have a maintenance issue. It's a early regrowth forest now.

They have a couple Main Events out here and continue to build more. I've been to one, not bad and not too expensive. It has bowling, laser tag, arcade, and an indoor ropes obstacle course(the ropes course more appropriate for kids though).

Between the flood, Alton Sterling riot, ambush killings of the police, St. George controversy and the new administration stirring things up I can see why they wouldn't want to build here. It's been a tough year for BTR.
