Last night I was given a parking ticket for having an unregistered vehicle parked on campus. I was pretty pissed since the ticket is $100 and I had no idea that was even a rule. I have been trying to decide how to go about handling this so I started going through some old threads on here. They have good advice, but they are all from a few years ago.
So I was wondering if anyone had some recent experiences with appealing tickets/getting an unregistered vehicle violation removed.

If you don't go to school there OR plan on parking there...forget it ever happened.

What are you appealing? You did it. You deal with it.

Don't pay it unless you are a student.

Feel like nothing happens if you don't pay.

How would they know the unregistered vehicle is yours?

If he is a student it goes on his fee bill. So if you don't pay your fee bill, something does happen.

Damn it's $100 now? I remember it was like $40 or so not that long ago.

I received a few tickets at UNO and they ended up forwarding over to the city. Long story short, I was not able to pick up my diploma til I payed $100+ in unregistered car parking tickets. This was in 2008.

If it's an unregistered vehicle how will they know which student was driving it

I am a student but I don't ever drive to campus except for last night. And I don't have any kind of permit registered to my vehicle at all

If you are not a student, AND the vehicle is registered in your name, it will hit your fee bill.

If you are not a student, or the vehicle is registered to someone else (parents?), don't pay. Nothing will happen.

ETA: registered with the state in your name? If so, they can run the plate, and attach it to your fee bill.

Hopefully you never gave the parking department your LP#. I'd always fill out the back and say i was visiting my kid at school and it won't happen again. Nothing every happened.

They'll probably put a hold on your account

You'll go to register for classes (I'm sure that's already happened for the Spring) and you'll be screwed

How could you possibly not know about getting a permit for your vehicle? There are signs EVERYWHERE on campus. And I'm fairly certain they force you to pick a parking plan for the year every fall.

Just pay your fine and move on. There is no excuse for you not knowing you needed it.

ETA: And this.

Definitely appeal first.

I got a ticket for unloading in the unloading area.....something about an unloading tag?

I appealed and didn't have to pay......but I knew the student worker in that office so that may have helped (probably helped) - (definitely helped).

That's what i thought as well. But they must have changed things because i went to their website after i got the ticket and it says you need one at all times to park on campus.

Also the car is registered in my parents name.

Well i live right on the bus stop so i just take the bus everyday. That's why i didn't get one.

And the only reason i was driving to campus was to help a friend out with a flat tire
