Don’t they operate one of the better industrial fire fighting training centers. Or is that a different line item?

Probably the fire training institute that’s down there off Nicholson

LSU has a firefighter training academy, FETI. They train firefighters all over the state

Hey, what's up with all that smoke over by L'Auberge?
Posted on 8/25/22 at 8:42 pm to LSUBoo
Probably just another young entrepreneur from Gardere dropping a mixtape

Quite a few fire departments train there, lots of plants response teams do too, and that facility takes money to keep up

Yes. FETI(or is it FETA now?) is an outstanding and reputable Fire and Emergency training center. I was on an Emergency Response Team at a plant many years ago. It was pretty bad arse going there once a year to do Fire Brigade/Rope Rescue/Trench safety training refreshers.
They also train actual firefighters. That's cool to see if there's a firefighter class going on while you're there. It's like bootcamp and a very serious/disciplined bunch.

Feti is now under the state fire Marshall and not affiliated with lsu.
Edit: apparently it is now FETA, that must be a recent change

Ahhh, I didn’t know about the change

Yes. As of Jan 1. The state owns and runs it.

A bill was passed in the legislature this year, HB 757 that transfered the ownership and operation of LSU Fire and Emergency Training Institute to the Office of State Fire Marshal. This has been in the works for the last few years. There is no such operation as LSU-FETI. It is now officially referred to as the Louisiana Fire and Emergency Training Academy, or FETA. This law went into effect August 1st, 2022. LSU-FETI has been in operation since 1963,but is gone with Louisiana politics and the stroke of a pen. The current Fire Marshal, Dan Wallis is a good, fine man. FETA now falls under the fire marshals office.

I think I goes to train police officers………..

Since HB 757 didn't go into effect until August 1st, the firemen training money had to be budgeted to LSU FETI since by law they were the lead agency to train firemen. I'm sure now, that money has been transfered to the fire marshal office. The statutory dedicated money for that training is generated by 1/4 of 1% of fire insurance premiums paid in Louisiana.

My brother used to go down from Shreveport to train there. When I lived in Baton Rouge, I'd go out there an watch them. Pretty bad arse place

It is. There use to be firefighters from all over the world train there. The last several years there has been some political stuff take place and I think LSU just had enough and said we're done. All of the upper administration left for other LSU jobs except two or either retired. Most of the full-time instructors, which were only a few, transitioned over to the fire marshal. Most of the part-time instructors did not. It's a really good place to train and will get better. It will take a few years, but it will work. It has too.
