Also, has anyone received a scholarship from band, other than the automatic $1,000. Thanks in advance.

They lied when they told you skin flute was a real band position.

You're going to have to audition and compete. Prove you can march on up/down/off beats, prove your sight reading abilities, chops, know more than just a few rudiments, be able to play to a click track, and shite like that. Try outs probably take a week or so of daily show and evidence you can hack the routine (hack pun intended).

It really depends on what your high school training was. The guys who came from ex drum corp teachers always did fine. The one who just marched in circles at halftime struggled.

I hope you have what it takes. One band, one sound.

At least when I knew people in the band I don't know anyone else that made it unless they were section leader / first chair type talents.

It's the toughest section to make because there's so few spots. No chance at playing drums freshman year. Best hope is to hold cymbals on the off chance you make it.
Should have played a brass instrument. Tiger Band will take any warm body with a pulse that plays a brass instrument.

Don't you go thinking you got anything on Cardi B, Johnny O, Stevie B, or Chunky A for that matter.

Can't speak specifically to the drumline, but my son played trumpet in Tiger Band, so I can speak to what he went through.
Tryouts were a bitch. Camp is a lot of hours. March, march, and march some more. Long days. He was not first chair in HS and made the cut. Tutoring to improve sight reading (sight reading is a must), even worked with his HS band instructor on things. Auditions can be stressful.
Auditions and tryouts every year. Turnover every year. He got cut his SR year, along with several other seniors. Constant practice, and if you can't improve or have a bad audition you're gone.
That being said, he enjoyed his time immensely. Honestly, his being cut was probably for the best because he took 21 hours that semester to graduate with 2 degrees (subtle brag).

Band at the high school level gets a lot of shite but those kids put in work.
More work than any of the athletic teams.
I can imagine college band is pretty similar.

Good advice from several here regarding how to be prepared for it. The two toughest sections to land a spot in with Tigerband are percussion/drum line and Tuba (JUMAS). The sections aren't as large as the trumpet or trombone sections, so figure fewer spots available is gonna make it that much tougher.
High school marching band experience can be helpful if you were in a particularly competitive marching band that demanded excellence in musicianship and M&M (marching and maneuvering). A HUGE help in preparing to audition successfully for a spot in the Tigerband drum line would most likely include summer marching with one of the drum corps across the US. During my time in Tigerband in the late 1980s, our drum corps was essentially made up of guys who had marched all summer with Phantom Regiment and Star of Indiana. It kept them sharp in the off season, and they spent several weeks together working closely on precision drills and playing - and it showed!
Good luck with the audition.
And no, I wasn't in the drum line. I was among the plethora of trumpets. Dr. Wickes said he could never have too many trumpets or trombones as long as they were talented. I snuck in with a late audition on the day Tigerband practice started in August. You won't get the chance for a late audition for drum line or JUMAS.
