Love is a lie that makes people cry: divorce stories edition

I have buddy going through a divorce. No way to express the vitriol of his heart. What kind of world do we live in where we say "for better or worse and until death do us part" but end breaking it off over a grain of salt?

Is there honestly a point to getting married? I feel like dating with separate bank account/ property is the only way to do it.

Boy meets girl. Girl is deaf. Boy doesn't sign. Bad things happen. They work out differences, get married. Have baby. Boy learns a little sign. More bad things happen. Girl takes baby and files for divorce. Boy never beat his wife or cheat but was not perfect. Boy asked for forgiveness and got counseling. Girl won't give two fricks and still wants divorce.

Are you kidding? Divorce is as old as the concept of marriage. Divorce today is tame. In the old days you just killed your wife/husband.

Romantic marriage is a lie. You don't marry someone because they complete you or make you happy.
You should love and care for the other person, yes. But the marriage should be a common sense arrangement, a joining of two families to produce a new family. Who commit to one other not out of emotion or whatever, but to fulfill those practical goals.
We need a new paradigm where we approach it pragmatically, and stop brainwashing everyone with Disney fantasies.
