Why do you have an axe to grind about this?
You want to bugger dudes, is that it?

Some of us just value freedom, in general.

It's all in the name. As stated, sodomy sounds bad. None of those ignorant fricks wants their opponent running an ad campaign saying that they "supported the legalization of sodomy." Christians and old ladys would faint at the sound of their name.

But they could. It's just as against the law as homosexual anal/oral.
The bigger issue is why 67 people voted to not repeal an unenforceable law. If a law is unconstitutional, then it shouldn't be a law.

the real issue.
A room full of dummies.

This is all about politics. Most of them, if they voted to get rid of the law, would be DONE politically. They would lose the next election.
So what they did instead was punt the ball: they know the courts will strike it down, and probably very soon.
EDIT: I am not justifying their behavior. They are fricking idiots, and I can't abide this kind of bullshite in politicians. I won't vote for any of these cowards.

Doesn't matter, the damage is done. Imagine if you picked up a girl at a bar because she told you that she wanted to suck you off and when you get to her place she tells you she's an undercover cop and you're under arrest for crimes against nature. Next morning your name and picture is in the advocate for crimes against nature. How would you feel even if the charges eventually got dropped a few months later?
I would love to see this happen to the reps that voted the bill down.

And there's your answer. The Religious Right still runs this state, Gene Mills and his ilk, and politicians cower to them. Same reason the Bible is being set up as the official State Book, instead of Confederacy of Dunces, which would be more accurate.

Aside from the fact that it violates peoples rights, it opens up the state to lawsuits. Taxpayers pay for a cop to go around patrolling, cop arrests someone under this law. Taxpayers pay DA to either dismiss charges or pursue legal proceedings. Taxpayers foot the bill when said person sues state for wrongful arrest.
Whatever happened with those cases of people being arrested in BR a couple of years ago? Anyone know if it went forward legally or if they sued?

And I still maintain that The Last Hayride should be the official book.

I know this is going to come off as petty, and you're by far not the only one to switch the two designations, but I will point this out in the hopes of helping produce better informed voters.
A state legislator is NOT the same thing as a Congressman/Congresswoman.
As far as this bill, Gene Mills knows that if sodomy becomes legal by Louisiana standards, the temptation will become too much for him to overcome.
Either that, or he enjoys being a law-breaker.
Let's hope for his sake, he's at least breaking the law with a female, one who is his wife.

What is the legal definition of sodomy
Posted on 4/17/14 at 10:12 am to TheIndulger
Here's Louisiana's interpretation of Crimes Against Nature, and it appears every time someone wants to amend or repeal the illogical portions of this law, the opponents of said repeal (Louisiana Family Forum) refer to these acts as "sodomy".

Do y'all even realize that oral sex is considered sodomy?

Why was this ever even put to a vote?
