For those interested. Long post

Moret has done a helleva job since being appointed Secretary of Economic Development in 2008. For those who don't know, he recently stepped down at LED and will become the new president, CEO of the LSU Foundation.

Since 2008, Louisiana has secured impressive economic development wins that are resulting in more than 91,000 new jobs and more than $62 billion in new capital investment in Louisiana. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Louisiana’s private-sector job growth since January 2008 ranks second best in the South and seventh best in the U.S.

Here are the 2 publications:

1. Chief Executive

quote:

Chief Executive reported that CEOs nationwide rank Louisiana No. 7 in the magazine’s annual ranking of Best & Worst States for Business. The report continues the state’s ascent in national business climate rankings, with Louisiana showing the greatest improvement of any state in the U.S. over the past seven years. Since January 2008, Louisiana has improved a nation-best 40 spots in the Chief Executive survey.

Chief Executive Editor-in-Chief J.P. Donlon said of Louisiana’s performance, “Louisiana is proof that a state can transform itself, provided it has the will and understanding of what attracts business investment, from a place that was once considered a backwater to a state that CEOs now regard as dynamic and business-friendly.”

Site Selection

quote:

Today, Site Selection rated Louisiana’s economic development efforts No. 2 in the nation in its ranking of Top Competitive States for 2014. With a score of 408.5, Louisiana finished just a half-point behind top-rated North Carolina, which scored 409. Texas finished third at 406.

Last year was marked by major project announcements as well as significant progress with previously announced projects, including Benteler Steel/Tube at the Port of Caddo-Bossier, CenturyLink in Monroe, Crest Industries in Alexandria, Sasol near Lake Charles, Bell Helicopter in Lafayette, IBM in Baton Rouge, Danos in the Bayou Region, and GE Capital in New Orleans.”

Also, LED publishes EQ, a quarterly report that provides some good info. Here's a LINK that links their previous issues. I try and take a look at it when it comes out

Here are some graphics from EQ that help visualize the growth of Louisiana's economy.

Also, here's a few pics of the new IBM building downtown I found off another forum.

Nope. This is a judicial hellhole and the legal climate keeps businesses away. Your article is bullshite and we need tort reform immediately. LABI told me so.

In spite of Jindal? Jindal has been a huge success in bringing private sector growth to Louisiana. Now he has turned into a huge failure on the public sector and managing the budget the last few years and that has overshadowed his private sector record.

It's easy to lure businesses here when you literally give them money to do so.

Gracias, senor. I've never seen my city better. Young educated people want to come here and stay here. Sure, there is a real estate bubble going on, but it is a really positive thing right now.

One of the few things he did ok at was getting the business climate better.
On the other hand, the Katrina and BP money as well as a shite ton of cheap natural gas supply has been an almost sure thing magnet for LA to get business

Here's LSU economist/professor, Dr. Richardson's 2015 Louisiana Tax Study. Good overview of LA's tax structure

Many have known shite was eventually going to hit the fan sooner than later. We've been giving a shite ton of money away to lure these huge investments without fully reaping the benefits of them yet. People bitch that the state shouldn't give money to these companies which I agree is a plausible argument. However, if we don't, these companies know GA, TX, TN, etc are only a phone call away.

Below is our current revenue sources (taken from the link). PIT & Sales Tax are currently our 2 highest forms of tax revenue. Well, most of these projects are currently under construction therefore the majority of these 91,000 employees have yet to 1) file income taxes and/or 2) are not currently living in Louisiana therefore are not paying sales tax. That's the problem

From what I understand, we've been using 'one-time funds' to plug the budget gap until these companies begin returning our ROI

Unfortunately, we're just out of one-time funds to use - essentially causing the problem we have today.

Dammit George!
Don't mess this up with your stupid facts. Bobby is like making our Tigers go bankrupt so he can have his Indian investors buy it for curry research.

I'm impressed with Steve Moret's efforts and I hope he does just as well with the LSU foundation.

The IBM project is especially cool.
