Name 1 incentive for someone born in another state, barring running from something, that the state offers.

NOLA?
Lots of cities have food
Lots of cities have bars
Lots of cities have culture
You likely won’t get murdered or robbed or carjacked in them.

I find those New England numbers hard to believe. Alabama might be #1 if it weren’t for Huntsville.

So even though we have the most people who have deep roots where they live, we are still stuck at either #49 (Thanks Mississippi) or #50 in any positive metric. Boy that really says something about us.

The secret is out, you visit Louisiana, you don’t live in Louisiana.

Kinda like a shitter.

I thought the same thing until I considered how small those states are geographically. Living in an area the size of a couple counties/parishes your entire life would be less common.

Arkansas would be in the 90s if not for Benton and Washington counties.

probably the only thing I can think of is if you work in petro-chemical. South La is actually one of the best job markets for that.

I was part of that 20% for a brief time. Then realized my mistake and left.

Surprised WV isn’t higher than us on that. They are notoriously insular and will stinkeye anyone who hasn’t had roots in the area for generations.

La people don’t leave La. It is a weird cultural phenomenon that always comes up in conversation between those of us who do escape. The state continually gets worse YoY and people think relocating to the next parish will solve the problem.

My boss has said this, as her husband is in that field.

They have previously lived in places like upstate NY and while they liked it, the work was shite for him because they were the backwater for the company and last on the list for anything they tried to get.

Something that would be a three week delay up there would be overnight down here.

We are starting to give strong thought to leaving the state once the kids are out of high school. We'd like to go somewhere more rural and outside LA.

Meanwhile, our best friends from when we lived in Texas, are starting to give thought to moving to NOLA when their kids graduate high school. The Garden District is their favorite place on earth.

Take away New Orleans and I bet that number is closer to 95%.

At least some of it is staying around for family.

I did so when younger. I’m at the point to where I am moving elsewhere if possible once the last kid hits college.

Helps that most relatives I was staying here for are now dead or are old enough they may die by the time I am planning to move.

Tell them to spend a week in the city in that area again before putting money down on property.

My eyes never roll harder than when somebody starts talking about how great Nola's culture is.

Q. Notice the subtle historical revising on the number of states?

A. D.C. is NOT a state.

Don't let the virus spread.

And the down votes of ignorance begin quickly

Also most Louisianans are too scared to branch out and possibly have a better quality of life outside the state.
