If your kid hasn't already taken and scored atleast a 16 on the ACT yet, then he's pretty fricked for college

I believe most daycares in this area offer after care and daycare when school is out of session. He would still be enrolled through that.

He is currently in a daycare in BR however. So if he does enroll in an LP pre-k then I would have to switch his daycare due to after school pickup issues. That's why I have been looking into this a year out.

There are some daycares that the state qualifies as a Pre-K. Most are not.

My oldest girl just finished K-4 but it was at a Catholic school. The baby starts K-3 next year.

Is that a 36 month payment plan?

It's preschool, not primary/secondary education

I think we pay about $175 per month at St. Andrew's UMC. I've had all three of my kids there, and highly recommend the place.

Woodlawn Baptist Church Preschool on Jones Creek was priced reasonably as well.

That is more of a mothers day out type program.

Forgot about families where both parents work. Yep, that's only 9:00 to 1:30.

legit pre-K

It's still a wonderful school. My children started Kindergarten already reading, and were well ahead of their classmates academically.

i sent mine to the same private school pre-k where she would attend thru 6th grade. never too early to start learning. plus, expense-wise, not much different than daycare, but the teachers are better.

you, being in BR, given the state of public schooling there, may want to consider getting a head start on whichever private school she will be attending.

My Daughters day care is state approved for pre-k 3 and pre-k 4. They also will do her before and after care next year while in kindergarten for $60/week.

Pre-k 3 and 4 both came out to $715 a month and summer camp was the same amount.

I couldn't imagine her starting school next year without what she has learned in her "school". Been there since she was 6 weeks old and they've done an excellent job.

Honestly, even if you could get your kid into public pre-k, I wouldn't recommend it. The reason they accept special-needs and poor kids first is because they are usually behind academically. The state curriculum is designed with that in mind. Your child will get a lot more out of a private pre-k, but won't be behind if you keep them in daycare. It seems like you're doing your job as a parent, and don't need a public pre-k teacher to do it for you. I am a public school teacher and both of my children went to a private pre-k. They were reading by the time they finished. Meanwhile, most of their Kindergarten classmates couldn't read at the end of the school year.

Agreed. My son went there for 3 years before K and I was very glad he did. Great school.

Its true they do take special needs kids first here in LP. But, they also take a certain number of "normal" or smarter kids regardless of income. They assign these kids to be a peer group or team leader to help some of the other children. This was how the school explained it to me.
I am raising my grand daughter whose mother was too young and lost her dad to a car wreck at 6 months old. I got her in pre k even though she was very smart and I made too much money. I think it turned her into a leader at school. She just finished the fifth grade last week. She was one of a handful to have all A`s honer role and gathered six different awards or so. She also won the dare essay award.
Anyway, I guess it cant hurt to apply.

This would be LP public schools. Not EBR but I would imagine the % of free/reduced lunch students would be similar.

my daughter went to LP pre-k. They took the free and reduced lunch kids first. Then it went by in district kids after those spots were filled.

It was nothing special. Little to no education. Just played all day, napped and ended up being a cheap daycare for us.
This is Live Oak BTW,.

There are plenty of "legit" prek programs out there that are 8-12 or 9-1.

Some mothers just need more "me time" than others.

Does you parish have a Gateway program? If so, get him tested and if he passes he will get in for free with advanced learning classes. The classes are also much smaller than normal.
