How many people here have sent their kids to Pre-K?

My son just turned 3 and has been in a daycare for the past 3 years where he does learn pre-k material right now. Hell he even has homework every week.

I'm just now learning that free and reduced lunch kids get a spot first and do not have to pay tuition. For everyone else they have to pay and are not guaranteed a spot. I figure I may be screwed out of being able to put him in public school pre-k due to this. (He will not be 4 for another year so this is for next year)

Is it even worth pursuing if he has already been learning pre-k curriculum? My other option would be private school for pre-k of course.

YOU need homework.

Horrible run-on sentence.

You go in there with this written down, and they'll let him in...

Whatever you pay to public and Catholic preK schools are considered tax deductible child care. Or it least it was when my daughter was that age.

Ok.. So adding nothing of substance to a thread is obviously something to be proud of.

BRAVO a-hole BRAVO.

I wouldn't consider public pre-K "getting screwed"
You really don't want your kid there.

Find a good private preschool and pay the $150-200 per month.

He would still attend aftercare. After paying close to 10k last year I was only able to deduct around $600 I believe. The daycare will likely still eat up all the deductible amount in the long run.

Can you elaborate? This would be LP public schools. Not EBR but I would imagine the % of free/reduced lunch students would be similar.

It is fact, unless you are poor or you kids has special learning needs, you will have to pay for private pre K. I had to do it for this past year and have another kid that will do it in 3 more years.

Is pre-K worth sending your children to if they are already enrolled in a learning daycare? Is there a chance for a child to attend public pre-K if they are not disabled or his parents are not low income?

I would refuse to pay until they enrolled my kid.

For both of our kids, we sent them to a local church at 2, 3 and 4 yrs old. The 2 and 3 YO classes we chose were two days/wk. The 4 YO class was regular preschool, 5 days/wk.

So the public option is pretty much off the table for this area if you are not in those categories?

public school pre-k

Do these things exist, or is your nursery/daycare reimbursed by the state?
