I agree on legalization, but unless these poor black souls are having it planted on them (which I am sure they all claim), then what relevance at all does this have in the discussion?

I'll never understand the argument that if a specific group of people breaks a law that applies to everyone at a higher rate than any other group, than that law is racist or discriminatory against them.

Seems quite simple. Is it illegal to possess it? If so, then, well... don't possess it and you won't have to worry one whit about it. As a matter of fact, how could it be more simple?

You would have fit in perfectly during the prohibition.

And it's your right to feel that way.

I was just trying to keep it real with the facts of the case being posted, so that people would understand it wasn't simply a one time stop and he was sentenced to 20 years for that small possession on it's own, as the OP seemed to imply.

We're trying to, but with the power system in place (i.e. Eric Holder being the attorney general), it's pretty hard. They just announced they won't investigate the CIA for spying on Congress. THE US GOVERNMENT WONT EVEN INVESTIGATE ESPIONAGE AGAINST CONGRESS.

People don't understand history.
The entire war on drugs is a money grab. You can't legalize now or you would bankrupt entire police forces.

I can see legalization of small amounts for possession but still fight the fight against dealers and gangs that deal for money and guns.

It's bloated as it is. I'm sure they could sell some of those free MRAPs they're getting to make ends meet for a little while.

I couldn't care less what the law on it is, I'm just saying it's dumb to get mad when you get caught breaking a law you know is on the books

Still, 20 years for a completely non-violent offense that harms no one else is ridiculous. Manslaughter gets you less.

So you don't think that full legalization may play a part in decreasing or eventually eliminating the violence associated with black market dealing?
