I recognize the qualifier "think", but you may wish to check some stats before making an incorrect blanket statement.

Yep, must be so terrible to live in a state where old people have a low cost of living, can go hunting and fishing year round, have mild winters, and be surrounded by their families. Must be terrible.

The whole, "If you don't like it here, leave" and the excuse that, "it's like that everywhere" given by those that never lived outside of La is the attitude and reason it will always remain a poverty stricken, uneducated state.

Like another poster said. With it's resources there is zero excuse La esp South La should be as trashy as it is. Keep on hating Texas and believing otherwise tho.

If you a decent amount of money though Mississippi and Louisiana are great places to retire to. Both states have great hunting and fishing, plenty of festivals and things to do whether you are a outdoorsman or a city dweller.

If you are poor though it sucks, but living anywhere poor sucks in all honestly

Exactly. I can't think of a place I would want to retire broke/dependent on Social Security.

I prefer the surveys that showed we had five of the happiest cities in America.

FIFY

Nah. I'd rather live here than quite a few other states.

If I had the choice I'd live somewhere in the West though (Alaska included)

It is baffling to me that Louisiana is such a poor state with all the resources available.

Because it lacks in the one resource that really matters, the human resource.

Which really has nothing to do with retirement. I am looking for low cost of living, plenty of outdoor activities, plenty of festivals and things to do, good health care and a safe place to live for retirement I would certainly look at places in both Louisiana and Mississippi

First off, La is not a safe place to live, plenty of states have outdoor recreational type activities and resources, and La does NOT have good healthcare compared to other states.

But then again, there's festivals. Yea...nobody else has those either

Yea Texas is just like La. You know, besides the superior public school system, no state income tax, Ivy League type educations at public universities, better highway systems, better economy, lower sales tax, better public transportation, less crime, better outdoor activities, better managed parks and wildlife, better pro sports franchises, better hospitals, more money, etc. I could go on and on...but yea, other than those few things they're just alike.

If we are talking about retirement why are we worried about schools and colleges? It is retirement.

Plenty of places in La are safe and have great medical facilities. The Northshore for example. The Ms Gulf Coast is also a great place to retire to.

Not many states have the outdoor space that either of these states have for hunting and fishing. Old folks love golf and the Ms Gulf Coast has plenty of courses to choose from
