Louisiana has Road Map to be More EV Friendly

“If we don’t have a viable charging network, folks who are traveling in a growing national fleet of electric vehicles will bypass us for fear of what will happen if they run out of juice,” Louisiana Secretary of Transportation and Development Shawn Wilson tells USA Today Network. “Building a network now will keep us from being left behind.”
Louisiana secured $74 million from the 2021 Infrastructure Investment Act along with $22 million in previous federal funding to use as grants to attract private operators of charging stations.
The first grants are set to be awarded in the first two quarters of 2023 with the first charging stations from the funding in place before the end of next year.
The backbone of Louisiana’s initial network will be built out on its interstate systems and will require one fast-charge station with a minimum of four charges every 50 miles within one mile of the highway. Read the full story about the state’s plan from USA Today Network.

3 things.
1. When the gasoline powered car came to be, the government did not build gas stations. People looking to make a buck built the infrastructure as demanded by the market.
2. The government can not build and maintain charging stations like the private sector can.
3. Knowing #1 and #2, it can only be assumed, in the near future you will have to pay for the charging service at a private "Energy" station negating any savings you thought you would get buying an EV.

Dude do you live under a fricking rock? That's how things currently are. They aren't going to let you charge your EV for free. You pay a private company to use their charging resources. The savings come from the fact that it's cheaper to charge your car than it is to fuel it up.

This is a really good point. The general thought is higher gasoline prices makes EVs more competitive, but electricity isn't free. It doesn't come from unicorn farts, and increased demand for electricity will lead to increases in what will be charged.

Hopefully via something like inspection fees for vehicles, or some sort of sales tax at EV stations.
Though I have a feeling there will be some sort of class warfare debate with some Democrats suggesting higher state income tax rates.

These charge stations will have backup diesel power. You will have to in Louisiana. So it will cost more to power those to charge your car than it would be to just fill my car.
