That memorial is impressive. It looks as though the guys are moving as you walk around the site.

A defoliant sprayed by our military to expose Charlie's hiding places, and was found out later to be highly carcinogenic.

REM's Orange Crush was about it.

I was admittedly ignorant on the entire conflict when I visited in 2005. Was a chilly November night(went over there after work training in McClean) and it was moving, haunting, humbling all rolled in one. I was very glad to be alone taking it all in that night.
Must visit at night if y'all haven't before.

I was a kid living on a Marine Base with my family during Vietnam. Dad went over three times. I remember one of my Little League coaches getting killed over there, as well as the son of a neighbor (a Marine Col. whose son was in the Army). The neighbor's son had been one of those older boys who all the local kids looked up to.
I was looking at my dad's "Cruise Book" (a yearbook of sorts) from his first tour of Vietnam, looking at the pictures of 11 men who were killed. It is sad.

I'm surprised there are only 3 on that list from Caddo parish.

Dad is the short guy (he still plays golf at 91):

That's actually the Korean War Memorial.
I remember watching the movie "We Were Soldiers" and at the end of it they gave a full list of the men who died there. I was surprised to see a guy from the tiny town I grew up just outside the city limits.

I hate this phrase. It implies that their deaths were for a noble cause.
Their lives weren't given, they were taken. And for no good reason
There's a better way to say what you're trying to say here.

The Wall in D.C. is a very sobering thing to experience.

That is awesome. Have my Dad's cruise book from the New Orleans. Did two tours and spent quite a bit of time over there.
Tell your Dad thanks for his service!

I did read. That's why I pointed out he had posted a picture of the Korean War Memorial in a thread about the Vietnam War.

Obviously not the part where I mentioned watching the Vietnam in HD series over MLK holiday and THEN go on to mention that the Korean War shocked me more than Vietnam b/c I had no idea of the number of soldiers we lost there. Turd butt.

My 2nd cousin was an M60 gunner for the 101st Airborne during the siege of Firebase Ripcord. Coincidentally, the same battle that Chuck Norris's brother, Wieland, was killed in.
My cousin died in 2006 at the age of 57 from cancer supposedly caused by being in the jungle sprayed with Agent Orange.
For those that have never heard of the Battle for Firebase Ripcord, it must've been hell for 23 straight days.
