can get a crate engine that's a very similar one to what's in there now for about $3300. I want to know about how much I should expect to pay someone to do the work.

any knowledge out there?

It's a 70.. DIY.
It's not that much to do. release the engine mounts. support the engine, undo the transmission and hoist it out.

Though if paying for the work, I would guess you should expect to pay 7-8 hours of labor at $65-70 an hour.

1-1.5K labor and misc

You going to want to make sure it runs and is checked out right?

I'd recommend checking out the GM performance website. Performance There a lot of engines to choose from. FWIW, If you have the old turbo-fire engine in that Impala, it's a fairly desirable engine, don't chunk it.

Looks like OP can not do this himself so...

1. Used LS motor
2. Harness and such
3. Work a deal with someone you know who cant do the work.

Am I the only one who likes the old carberated motors in classic cars?
Keep it as simple as possible.

Still got points? Otherwise electronic ignition will leave just as dead as a prius.

We dropped a Jasper crate 4.3 in my sons 2001 Chevy PU. It was sweet running and we were well pleased. Still running great 4 yrs later when he sold the truck.

Changing an engine is easier than you think it is especially on a car that old.

My brother was going to pull the engine out of a 70 something Chevy. He was in Gonzales at the time. I live a little north of Zachary and told him to call me when he was getting ready to pull it and I would help. He called when he got started and I left the house.

The engine was dangling off the engine hoist and out of the truck by the time I got there.
