Najeeb Thomas.
I can't believe the thread has gone this long without someone mentioning his name.

Do not get surgery if your only symptom is back pain.
Surgery should be reserved for when there are real neurological symptoms and a legitimate correctible finding on MRI to explain it.

Look into minimally invasive procedures. They are done through port holes rather than slicing through the muscle in a filet fashion. Many of the old school guys can't do this. It takes extra time to learn and they don't hang it up for 12-24 mo to go learn. The surgeons are probably in their 30's or early 40's, but are specifically trained in surgeries that make it easier to recover.

Check out DISC from Covington. They are the first to come up on Google. I don't know the docs, but read up on the procedures.

Exhausting all non surgical options cannot be stressed enough.

Can y'all recommend an acupuncturist? Like laffy-ellick-BR area?
Also how much does a session usually run? Doubt my insurance covers acupuncture. Been having back trouble since i was 15.

Get a second opinion & then possibly a third. Once you operate on a back, depending on the issue obviously, it is never the same. Be careful in N.O. lots of whores who operate at the drop of a hat. It's all about the money for them. If you know anyone in vocational rehab, or physical therapy, ask them for a reference as they are always involved in post surgery treatment & recovery.

Dr. Isaza. Talented back surgeon and really easy to talk to. Scrantz is also good.

Sorry for the late reply but I posted this late and slept in this morning. I have had my MRI, results are 2 bulging discs, 3 deteriorating discs, spinal stenosis and some sort of tear which the term escapes me at this time. I appreciate the serious responses. I have seen Dr. Isaza initially but he told me to hold off on surgery. That was almost 3 years ago. I'm seeing Dr. Sean Graham right now. Have had some relief in the past with nerve ablasions (sp) twice. First time did great, not so great second time. Just had a cortisone injection in December and scheduled for another on the 20th. Minimal help but I'm going on vacation soon and don't need all the help I can get. I hear Isaza is really conservative since he himself has had back surgery. I'm not rushing this but I also don't want to wait until too much damage has been done to correct it. My brother in law thinks Scrantz is a hack for some reason. My PCP recommends him as does Graham. Graham also recommends Isaza. I just am looking for people who are or were on the receiving end of the scalpel.

Dr Lonseth in Metairie
Spine injections last September for two bulging discs in my lower back. Haven't had any issues since then. Was in and out of procedure in half an hour.

I second the BS!
He fixed my son up a couple of years ago.

Read Dr. John Sarno's books before you let anyone cut on you.

Don't get back surgery if you don't have to
